The Colt that I have the opportunity to buy is an original Colt Navy, made by Colt in about 1858.
I am considering buying it to put a Kirst cylinder on (or blackpowder loads...

Howdy folks.
It has been a while since I have been here, not had time for shooting sadly.
I am wondering if anyone can give their feedback on the Kirst Konverter cylinders and whether these...

Howdy Partners.
I have been reading some online about folks who say that the Winchester 1866 in .44 rimfire can be converted to something like .44-40 or .44 special. I don't own one but am curious...

Howdy guys.
I feel I can add a little perspective here, or at the least some interesting (and maybe useless!) information.
As most would be aware, blackpowder dates back several centuries,...

Thanks Ray, I will keep that in mind for future use, I will most likely be picking one of these up soon.
Ballistics in Scotland; thankyou for the informative post, very interesting. Incidentally...

Hi mate, I have occasionally read about the 50-70 Shiloh Sharps, but was never really clear on what was meant by it. I assumed it was 50-70 in a Shiloh Rifle?
Given I can find no specific data...

Thanks everybody, stewbaby; cheers for those pictures too man that helps.
I am beginning to understand how fine these 1889 (and later) rifles are, even compared to todays arms. Such a well made...

Thanks enfield.
I got the chance to handle an 1889 yesterday, very nice rifle and once you understand the bolt operation, you develop a technique to do it quite easily.
I will be doing as...

Thanks for the tips guys.
samari46; yeah I think it is waffenfett, I have been over on the swiss forum digging around.
Seems to be the best way to explain the bolt operation, hard initial...

I have a friend who has an Uberti 1866 in 44-40 which he used a combination of smokless loads and black loads.
His has developed some wear issues of some sort, though I do not know if it relates...

Hi mate.
Accuracy is generally no issue with the Rossi rifles, they perform fine and even better with some tweaking. There are a couple of websites/guides out there about physical modifications...

Thanks Elk hunter. Its reasurring that the photos look better than your when first obtained!
I am not sure if he would let me return etc, given his age and inability to take rifling photos I get...

Thanks Herbert! Nice to hear from you.
The final bits of information I ahve been able to obtain; the gentleman bought it in Michigan when he was 14, he is now 80. He tells me it has no pitting...

Yes like Gunlaker I run .454 in my .45 Colt rifle, but generally run .452 in my Uberti Cattleman.
I did run .454 in my Cattleman once by accident and it recoiled a whole lot more with the same...

Hi there ascast. I am outside of the US sadly.

Actually guys, I am struggling to clarify the ammunition/bore diameter situation.
The gun I am referring to is marked as being a .50 calibre. I see some other Spencers marked as .50 calibre too....

I kinda like Trail Boss now as a light or medium load, using a 250gr RNFP hardcast. Even a below max load packs a respectable punch.
I also like moderate charges or unique using the same...
