IME the best performance from Tri-Ball comes from .685 chokes in the Benellis and .690 chokes in the Remington 870s.
The Triangle shaped pattern means you have the perfect amount of...
Excellent bear!
I consider it something special anytime a big game animal is taken with a shotgun, even more so with ammunition you made yourself.
Congratulations!
Claybuster CB1138-12.
IMO/IME it is the most versatile wad for loading 00 buckshot. Wade Rush/Bubba Rountree Outdoors likes it too.
To the OP...Pattern testing with different loads and...
With screw in chokes the Extra Full chokes, .685./.690 diameter, seem to be the best performers for everything from 0 Buckshot to Tri-Ball.
With the smaller buckshot sizes from #4 Buckshot to #1...
Looks good BT...one of my next projects is to find a deer load for my Dad's Winchester 1400 12 Gauge semiauto with a 26 inch modified choke barrel.
I will try this one first. Which 20 Gauge low...
Great to see the testing of this great load continuing. Impressive results with the more open chokes and the short barrels.
IME with Tri-Ball the triangle shaped patterns indicate the right amount...
The 870s went to the back of the safe after I shot the Benelli Novas and Supernovas.
I personally don't care for Mossberg shotguns.

Those slugs are beasts... they look like a 148 BNWC on steroids.

I have a few extra laying around. Took another whitetail doe this year, looks like Axis Deer will be next.
They work.

I am a fan of the metal Precision Reloading Roll Crimper. Less flat on the end of the crimp than the BPI tools, SEEMs to feed smoother in pumps and autos.

Average velocity the last time I chronographed the load was 1081 fps from a 28 inch barreled Remington 870. The factory load was advertised at 1050 fps and I can get another 50-75 fps with the 3.5...

The first time I took a deer with Tri-Ball:

The second time happened on 11/08/20. I got into the blind about 0615...
The barrel came ready to take chokes, and as mentioned Mike Orlen is the guy for shotgun barrel and choke work.

Two days after having the conversation with Kick's the new choke tube was in my mailbox last night when I got home from work, and screwed right into the barrel.
I am seeing 50% tighter buckshot...
Did a bunch of buckshot and slug testing this past weekend, both my shoulder and cheek are still feeling it but I got a lot accomplished. I did notice that my new Kick's Buckkicker Extra Full Choke...
IME in 12 Gauge 3 inch and 3.5 inch Tri-Ball Buckshot rules the roost.
3 .600 round balls at 1100 fps through a .685 Carlson's Extended Extra Full Choke results in patterns ranging from one hole...
I use a Harbor Freight Rock Tumbler.
I fill each drum about half full with buckshot, add a tiny bit of graphite (Like half an empty .22LR case full), run it for 3-4 hours, and the buckshot comes...
Yeah, it has been a while since I posted, but the Tri-Ball Buckshot testing has continued.
The Remington 870 has moved to the back of the safe and the Benelli Novas and Super Novas to the front....
Looks like you have experienced the power and the majesty of Tri-Ball Buckshot firsthand...there is no going back now.
Everything else is well, just buckshot.

IMO the best combination of strength, speed and precision, and no press sides in the way.

Mr. Blood Trail,
There is a good chance the overbored barrel could be causing that.
A buddy has a 3.5 Inch Winchester SXP that we tested Tri-Ball loads in. It has a .740 overbored barrel and...
Thank you all for the great feedback.
Yes Mr. dverna they are pretty stout. I usually pattern them by standing up and resting the shotgun on a tripod type shooting rest instead of sitting and...
