Been working lately again with 20 ga highwall and 700 + grain projectiles inside of 20 gauge shot cups as well as full bore .622 himmelwright wadcutters. Latest projectile news 530 brain Pritchett...
The other load I've been working on in 20 ga is 45.0gr H4227 and my saboted 720gr bullet (commercial & predates the home cast version)@1268 fps
Also have used magtech brass shells and 49.0 gr H4227...
Seeing as hard dark nitro cards in 20&28 ga are impossible to find in the US, you can cut them from 12 ga ones, or my personal way is just soaking them in melted paraffin for a few seconds.

Thanks Ajay for passing along that word about the bullets. Thinking about putting in an order myself...
That powder that I've been using is reloader 17
85.0 gr has netted me 1300 feet per second with my 756 grain bullet in a plastic sabot. My best groups to date are 6-7"@100
Using too little of the...
Hello, been doing more work on my own 20g heavy slug loads. I designed the old West molds 12bore bronto bruiser. Now I'm working on a 20ga rifled highwall. Barrel is a 600ne pac-nor heavy blank....
Ajay, do you have a clean photo of a slug overriding the roll crimp? Haven't had it happen yet, but would love to see one for forensic reasons.
I have noticed that the torque, not the recoil, is more of an issue to me. These loads try to wrench the gun out of your hands. I'm sure it affects accuracy too.

Dark wads show promise. Same load without dark wads show wadcup base damage when loaded w/no crimp. These loaded with dark wads look good. I was using 3 nitros stacked together.
I was told by bpi that they don't have the dark ones in 20ga x .125 ......3/8 was as close as they sell, and I was very specific in an email about what I wanted and why.
I have read some things about rel-17 & aa5744 in slug loads. Gonna try that soon too. Also got shipment of hard waxed 3/8 nitro cards/filler wads. Stacking regular nitro cards 3high has not worked so...
Rules state American brass ctgs. of black powder era. Originally available loaded with bp. prior to 1896. Guns and ammo typical of era. No jacketed, paper patch ok.
The press is a rare Skinner press made by doc Tim Skinner of Skinner sights fame. This one is even more special since it had a 1 1/4" thd top plate.

Paper Recovered on range. New bullet. I've tried wrapping/wet and also smearing with glue. No good with black powder. Should try smokeless. This one was smeared with glue and dried. They...
I've tried paper patching. Haven't gotten good results as of yet.
Perhaps it would. I have thought of it, just not wanting to entertain it right now. I did that once in 12 ga. I designed the "bronto bruiser" in the old West molds lineup, and my body has paid for...

These things have almost destroyed my backstop, the tires in it, the fence around it, and the tree behind it!
