Interesting to use two powders like that.
Does the nitro 700 have a flash hole or is it straight through like yours?

Really cool project.
Looking at the print, it looks like it takes 209 primers but with that big thru hole the primers are going to see a ton of pressure without a small flash hole like you...

I have a 4 cav Lyman 452488 and it's my primary 45 acp bullet. When properly sized to the gun I have had excellent results.
Edit: forgot to mention, I had to beagle mine. It was casting small when...

Regular lower, grease gun mags, some modifications of my own. Still playing with the dimensions and trying to get my hands on a mag to play with. Even though the mags are 'pre ban,' the places I...

Thanks for the tips. How many rounds does it take to get that gunk on the bolt/carrier?
I have most of the build figured out so far. It shouldn't be too strip the upper for a thorough cleansing.

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum. I searched and couldn't find anything specifically pertaining to the subject of pistol calibers in a gas system AR. From reading, it sounds like the issues of...

I have one. Casts great, they drop around .360. Shoots great in my 586 and Security 6.

Anytime I go into uncharted territory, I start with a load that I know will be very light and slowly (.1 or .2 gr increments, depeding on the load) work my way up while watching for pressure signs or...

I keep like-alloy bullets together and don't bother weighing more than 5 per batch. I haven't been casting very long, but I've been getting darn good accuracy out of it. FWIW, most of my casting is...
Forum: Cast Boolits
There are plenty of folks here that are new to the casting. I have been doing it about 6 months and knowing what I know now, I would still go through. I agree with what's been said- it's all about...
Sounds like the mold faces might not be clean or closing properly? Hold it up to a light source to check. IMHO, a difference that large is not due to alloy. I'm also relatively new to this, but the...

I'm a mechanical engineer... Some things are impossible to forget ;)
I have a 4 cavity Lyman that drops pretty little 452488's. Very smooth casting. Unfortunately, they drop at .451 and my 1911 likes at least .452. So, I beagled it. The .451's have been accurate...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Steel is 483 lb/ft^3 @ .28 lb/in^3, which is the nominal density for A36 steel. I have heard anywhere from .280 to .286 lb/in^3 depending on the alloy, but that's still a pretty small spread.
