Being a big fan of the 50 Caliber WMC and it's fast twist, the bore would have to be pretty trashed for me to consider a rebore. Not sure if there is enough steel or not, they did make a 54 Caliber...

I have a 320 on order so I'll give a report as soon as possible.
Looking forward to your results with the harder lead. I'm thinking they maybe slightly harder to load but do well with a stiffer...

You posted some nice groups with this 250 REAL bullet for 50 Caliber with 1-48" twist in another thread recently. I'm curious if you have any experience with the 320 REAL using this same...

A couple more options would be the Lee 445-290M and 450-294M. Have not tried them yet but believe both could be patch patched and the .450 could be used as is or sized and lube. If you don't like the...

I've had success sizing the Gould mold (457122), 457193 and 457121 all down to .450 or .451 but the lead needs to be close to pure lead. Harder alloys such as wheel weights can also be sized down...

I have fond memories of a CVA Frontier carbine, I shot my first 2 deer with one. Sounds like a good price but hey your in a pawn shop, your obligated to barter for a better one.

MMP also has Sabots for the 357 bullets as well and although I have experimented with them I have become rather fond of my 40 Caliber bullets.

I've used 40 caliber bullets in both 45 and 50 caliber muzzleloaders for at least a dozen years using MMP Sabots.

Are you trying to get away from Sabots because of price or inconvenience ? Bore sized bullets are certainly a good option. If you don't mind playing there are a couple of good tutorials on paper...

I have seen the 50 to .357 options that prbullet offers and wondered how they worked, glad to hear of your success in your Savage. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Savage have a 1-24" twist ?...

50/40 Sabots are available from MMP and Harvester. I have shot a few deer using the MMP Sabots with 40 caliber 225 grain bullets. The bullet was cast from a custom mold I had made and has been used...

Harvester Muzzleloading also offers 45 Caliber Sabots for .400 bullets.

Yes MMP still offers 45 caliber sabots , Blue ones for .355 - .357 bullets and Brown ones for .400 bullets.
I have thought about shooting the shorter 125 grain bullets, they would probably be...

Well I was able to shoot the 200 REAL bullets with 60 grains of 777 with simular results that I had with the sabots. No sense me trying to make this gun something it's not and will consider it a 50...

Yesterday I spent a couple hours shooting my 45 caliber Cherokee using 160 grain 357 cast bullets in sabots with charges of 777 ranging from 50-80 grains. My best group was 2.5" at 50 yards, which...

I'm glad you were finally able to track one down, as things usually work ,since you found one another will probably just show up without you even looking for it.
I don't think the 54 was as...

I have taken deer with the following guns.
357 Ruger Blackhawk
Marlin 1894 C
Ruger 77/357
All 3 guns were loaded with the same handload consisting of a 180 LBT bullet and 296 powder. I'm totally...

A 40 caliber would give you some extra weight compared to a 45 which would help with less recoil and be friendlier on the stock.

Louis,
That is some nice shooting, have you had a chance to try that bullet past 50 yards yet.
Forum: Muzzleloading.
Nice thing about fast twist and long bullets is you don't need heavy powder charges to be productive. I was shooting my 45 with the 475 grain bullets and 50 grains of 777 out to 250 yards very...

Michigan use to have a 45 caliber minimum when it came to hunting deer with a muzzleloader but they dropped that restriction about 3 years ago. Personally I wouldn't use a round ball smaller than 45...

When they were still available I used a 45 caliber Green Mountain black powder cartridge barrel that had a 1-18" twist as a muzzleloader barrel, the bullets I used was the Lyman 475 grain 457121...
