I'm desperately trying to remember who cut my 358429 mould. I think it was Night Owl (?) on the forum here. It drops beee-yootiful bullets that shoot better than I do. Nice, square lube groove with a...

I use the same bullet, with a heavy dose of 2400.
My RCBS 44-250-K is 265 grains, ready to load. 7 grains of Bullseye for 1050 fps.

If you're open to other powder, I've had very good result with a Keith SWC and 6 or 7 grains of Bullseye. Very consistent, and 6 grains give me around 900-950 fps.

I don't want to be shot by a BB gun, either. That doesn't make a BB gun an adequate home defense weapon.
This one has been doing night (day time, since I work nights) duty for me most of the time....

I load my 265 grain LSWC over either 6 or 7 grains of Bullseye. Out of my S&W M29, felt recoil is comparable to a .45 ACP.
I've been loading 3.5 grains of 231 with that boolit. Gives me 805 fps from my 5 inch S&W M27.
I've been driving my 173 Keith boolits up to 1350 or so with 2400 and no leading in my S&W Model 27. WWs water quenched and lubed with paraffin/axle grease.
My experience with Keith boolits above...
I must admit to feeling some sort of vindication after defending to my hunting partners my choice of hunting loads. I use either a .357 or .44 Keith boolit at 1100 fps, give or take.
Thanks much...
I normally load 21 grains 2400 with a RCBD 44-250-K which is 265 grains ready to load. That gives about 1310 fps from my 6 inch 29. Going to 22 grains gives right at 1400 fps from both my 6 inch 29...

I really want one of the 20 or 24 inch rifles, but I'm kinda hung up on the 358429. I absolutely love it.
I can only hope that I can get a rifle that will feed it. I'm no fan of the RF boolits.
Forum: Cast Boolits
I don't yet have a rifle to shoot my .357s out of, but I hope to have one soon. With any luck, it will do well with the same load I use with my pistols...358429 and about 14 grains of 2400.

If you watched a hunting show on cable TV, you'd wonder how a hunter in the 50s ever managed to kill a deer while wearing a flannel shirt and a pair of jeans.

But the point remains, does Clint Smith not know what he's about, since he hasn't shot anybody? Does Joe the Crackhead that lives on the street know what he's talking about because he has?

Well now, how many times have you shot somebody? Been shot at? These things are certainly important to know before I take your opinion of anything seriously, right?
In answer to the original...

I wish I could lay hands on the can itself. I can use new 2400, but I'd like to have the square can.
2400 isn't EVER going to be "clean" in the sense some other powders can be. It will never rival Titegroup for leaving a clean gun.
2400 needs two things to work at it's best: Heavy loads and...
This fits in with the experience of my shooting partner. Because of this thread, we re-chronoed his Keith load .44 Magnum the other day. Sure enough, 22 grains and a 429421 provided a shade under...
Maybe common knowledge is like common sense, and not really as common as it sounds. :kidding:
Common knowledge is that 2400 has been reformulated, about the time that Alliant took over production from Hercules. I've read here and there of people doing tests and finding little to no...
Yes, whatever would we have done with a hot loaded round that would fit in a .38 revolver with only the markings of the box and the common sense of the user to prevent issues?
Oh wait, that was...
I load no hotter than about 7 grains. I think I was seeing flattened Federal Primers at 8 grains, IIRC. That's with a ~260 grain boolit, though.
Being the kind that cannot be told anything (just ask my old man), I felt the need to try anything with 2400. I love it. Don't even want to touch 110/296. When I got into 357 Magnums, I only used N...

Come on down. The Gulf of Mexico is walking distance that way. -------->
Couch is clean and ready.
A friend and I pulled up out at a pit the locals like to shoot at, and there was a group of guys banging away at bowling pins with AR-15s at roughly 125-130 yards. The friend with me whipped out his...
