If you have friends that make knives you might talk to them. The steel from the planer knives could make some great knife blanks.

You can soak the primer in oil, and let it set for a day or two. This should deaden the primer. One of the old manuals listed soaking primers in oil to dispose of old unknown primers.

I've heard, from a lot of old timers, mercury will get all the lead out. But then you have the added aspect of dealing with the mercury.

Beautiful rifle. You don't see that kind of craftsmanship very often. I'm sure your friend will be happy that this rifle is in the hands of his close friend who will appreciate it.

I don't have one of those, but I do have a small magnifier with the clamps that act as extra hands. I have been considering picking up one of the illuminated ones to clamp on my bench.
