I use the Lyman 30 Long (M) die for seating cast boolits in all of my .30 cal rifles and it works just fine. Should work okay in your French rifle as well.
I use the Lee Universal for all my rifles...

Via Madsenshooter, I've used 21.4 grs. of Blue Dot (just slightly faster than 2400 I believe) with 168 gr. jacketed match bullets in my 1898 Krag with excellent results.
