Taking a wild guess here, but most likely an austrian Wanzl, a breechloader conversion of the austrian Lorenz percussion rifled muskets.
I cannot provide case dimensions since I´m still looking...

Lyman #446110 will be my first choice for a 71 Mauser, but yours has a bigger groove dia. than expected.
I would experiment with a 45-70 boolit (0.457") sized down to groove dia. or to a couple...

.43 Spanish could also be formed from .375 H&H, .300WinMag and 7mm. RemMag cases.
The belt should be removed in all cases either by using a lathe or a drill press.
There are different methods...

this might seem somewhat obvious, but it is also a school related to the Argentinean Navy (Marina). So they were "navy issued" as you thought.
I don´t know what "Fusil F.N." stands for. Fusil...

IIRC, the 71 single shot model has a bigger bore dia. (between grooves) than the 71/84 repeater.
Lyman 446110 may work better for the repeater but anyway I would measure the bore dia. at the...

Which model is your swiss Vetterli? The ones I ve seen are either 69 or 69/71 models, and they all are somewhere between .427-.429"
I would go for paper patching .41 cal. boolits rather than...

I´ve used 5 to 6 grains of HP 38 with different boolits ranging from 160 to 180 gns. Mostly Lee moulds.
Tumble lubed with LLA or BLL´s, no gas check, soft alloy. In my N4 MkII they will clock...

It seems that the Lyman .31 Long die has two different steps (tapers): the second one might be excessive for .311 j-words but the first one might be of some help: according to Lyman´s manual "The...

Lyman #446110 is an option but perhaps you might want to slug your barrel before buying a mould: IIRC, 71 (Single shot) and 71/84 (repeater) models even have slightly different bore dimensions.
As...

11mm. Mauser cases should work too.
Both Mauser and Gras cases have similar dimensions but the shoulder-to-rim distance is smaller in the 11mm. Mauser case so you might need to fireform or resize...

Using some type of filler such as kapok might help with position sensitive loads. It might be worth trying.

What you have seems to be an Argentine contract cavalry carbine. Some pics might help.
Argentina got 2 main contracts and models for their Army, both of them chambered in.43 Spanish: 1866 and 1879...

Nice rifle and nice car too. Almost any mechanical device capable of burning either powder or fuel has my attention.
I´ve watched a lot of videos from that channel and I always enjoy them. Didn´t...

I´ve used very light loads of ww231, Bullseye, Unique and a few others in my 1891 Argies, starting around 5 grains and up to 7 grains and always adding some filler (kapok mostly).
The 1891 action...

+1 on electrolysis. It looks like rust.

IMHO, at 0.311" your boolits might be at least 3 to 4 thou smaller than they should. Of course the best thing to do is to slug the bore, but Mosins tend to be in that ballpark (around .314" or so).

Either 8mmx50R Lebel or .348 Win will work but trimmed down cases from either .43 Spanish or 11mm. Mauser will work as well. The rim might require some fitting, though. There are several parent cases...

Almost any case suitable for .43 Spanish Remington or 11mm. Mauser (11.15x60R) would also work for 11mm.x59 Gras.
The three calibers are very similar with slight differences in cases and bullet...
The problem regarding a short hand is not uncommon to other brands as well; I have seen it in some old Colts that were not worn; pulling the hammer slowly, it will cock but the cylinder stop would...
Those lemon squeezers had what I call (for a lack of better words) a two stage double action:
The first stage needs a hard trigger pull that will rotate the cylinder and cock the internal hammer....

Lyman #439186 will be the natural choice for .43 spanish but as others said before I would suggest to slug your bore first and then decide what to use: I know a couple of cases were bore dia. was...
Larry,
I´ve downloaded an printed your data to have it handy at my reloading bench. An interesting record of accuracy, pressure and velocity. Thank you.
Based on your results, Bullseye seems to...
Larry,
I bought a LEE die set already. It should arrive in a few days. I would really appreciate if you could share your info here.
Thanks,
Argie.
No, I´m afraid I don ´t.
Will they work for .38S&W? They have a slight taper, IIRC.
Thanks
