Didn't think of that, I'll check.

From my Lee 200 RNFP six cavity I am getting boolits at .430. Wanting to try some at .431 I was thinking of beagling but decided to lube some in my .431 die instead of my .430 die. To my surprise...

I can't tell you by numbers or percentages but you can experiment. Load up ten that weigh the same and then take ten that are light, middle, and heavy and load them with the same load and compare on...

Typecaster, from what I hear about Kalifornia you're lucky that the recycler let you have them, untrained civilian handling highly toxic material.:kidding:

Here is my rolled sheet metal shield. I have such a gap on my burner that I was wasting tons of propane on a breezy day.

Thanks for all the replies. I will wait for a better weather day and melt this stuff down and let you know what it looks like while melting. If I don't forget I'll have the camera with me.

Welcome to the forum, and as stated above your foot is in the door in more ways than one. I don't like to melt down my scrap in my casting pot as it could leave a lot of trashy residue where you...

I picked up about 30 lbs of powdered lead at the scrap yard the other day. They didn't know what it was from. Has anybody ever had powdered lead or know what it would come from?
I asked about...

You've got it. I used a thermometer for the first year and now I don't use it. Once all of the WW are melted I drop the heat and skim the top. Make sure your burner has a wind screen, you'll save...

I don't have experience with lead shot but I wouldn't put the tin in until your ingots are in your casting pot. Tin isn't cheap and you normally only need 1 to 2% In a ten pound pot 1% would be...

I haven't cast anything close to 500gr but with my new Lee 20lb pot and the temp up high the aluminum 6 bangers throw out tons of boolits fast. And with my new hot plate, warm up time will be...

I also use the Lee 6 cavity 200gr RNFP. A 6 banger will give you a pile of boolits in no time. Mine drop at .430 so I size them in a 430 Lyman die with Carnuba Red lube. They are for my Ruger...
I used a brass bristled brush (tooth brush style) without hurting anything. It scrubbed the coating off quite well. Soaking first as stated above will probably make it much easier.

I am no expert and I am glad you asked the question so I can see the answers from the more experienced among us.
If it were me and I had those boolits that you cast I would remelt the lightest 4...

Thanks for the link 454, I wish I had read that thread before I melted it all down so I could watch for some of those properties.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone think that because of the different colors of the ingots that it's possible that the light gray and dark gray may be something else? Maybe mono or stereotype?

I had a three gallon bucket full of dental foils that I was melting and as I got just a couple of inches into the bucket I found raw or still in print form, what I figure is linotype. Probably 35...

I have found only one place that wants $40 per bucket, but I pay it because they always have a full 5 gallon bucket and the cheaper places don't always have any when I stop in. Most places charge me...

5 gallon buckets, kitty litter buckets, and ammo cans. I make sure the buckets are where I want them before I fill'em, because I can't push them afterwards.

You said you had one dud. But that would have nothing to do with your boolits. Have you changed primers when you started using your own boolits?

Ten in my first year of casting. They go from .32 up to .45, all handgun with one Ranchdog .35 Rem.

Thanks for the replies, you've given me some ideas to work with. Recluse you mentioned aluminum molds having trouble filling out because of a too slow flow. I didn't mention in my post but I also...

Unboxed the new Lee Pro 4-20 burned off the oil and filled it with 50/50 WW/lead. I had been using the small 8lb Lyman pot and dipper for the past year. This was my first go with a bottom pour. I...

I'm glad this post appeared as I am close to melting down a bunch of range scrap that I know had some FMC bullets in it. I try to pick them out but I know some get in.
