I prefer to shoot the 44-40. But if it was a case of sticking one rifle in the saddle scabbard and leaving home in a hurry, I'd take the tried and true, pre 64 30-30 along with a Colt 45.

I have 4 Uberti 44-40 rifles and they all measure .429" with 1 in 20 twist. I would guess your rifle would be the same.
Nice rifle. I would not be apprehensive about shooting 44 mag ammo in it. ...
