I took Buckshot’s advice and had him make me a .335 push thru sizer. Sizing down the Lee 338 bullet makes a perfect fit for my 1895. Shoots great with 18 grs 4227.

You may very well be right Scott. But that's what testing is for. I'll give it a shot, no pun intended. Long time, hope you're doing well.

Totally agree. It would be a candidate for Buffer or COW. H414/W760 is a scary powder. Gave great velocity in the 30XCB but ES and SD were all over creation.

I have that Lee Mould for the 338. I'll cast up some and try shooting them in my Goodsteel-built Tikka T3 (Tim's first carbon fiber-wrapped barrel; very cool). I have all the powders discussed here,...

Listen to what Larry Gibson is saying. The 338WM with a 1:10 twist will give you the required amount of muzzle energy while staying below the RPM threshold, giving you sufficient accuracy. The Swede...

This is where you need to start. Quality lube. White Label BAC, 2500+ and 2700+ will all take you to about 2300 fps in a 1:12 twist barrel.

It does well in my CZ 527 in 7.62x39; I use this factory load chart:

This is no bench gun, but here are a couple of groups:...

To re-iterate what Larry says above, the relationship between RPM and accuracy becomes very obvious to anyone who tries to actually TEST the relationship, including posting targets of results...

Always use One Shot to size down PC'd bullets. I use Smoke4320's powders exclusively and have never had any problems.

We must have been typing at the same time. I see you already seated the bullets correctly.
Check out this headspace gauge (like Scharf is talking about): www.larrywillis.com
I've been using it...

Most important detail when fireforming: your bullet must touch the rifling when chambered. I normally seat a cast bullet long, letting the rifle bolt seat the bullet when closing. Now your case head...

17-20 grains of 4227 under just about any cast bullet 150-200 grains. Pressure won't be an issue. Twist rate will decide accuracy; by that statement I mean that a fast twist 308 (1:10) will need a...

I hope no one thinks there's any ridiculing going on from my side; I'm just trying to wrap my head around the severity of what happened to his rifle bolt. Having used 5744 extensively, and...

Scott,
I ran numbers for a 200 gr bullet (the 311299), because I wasn't familiar with the R4. It showed an MV of 1955 and a pressure of 28.4K psi. Still nowhere near danger zone. If I didn't know...
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
Having no Mosin experience I won't try guessing what happened in the OP's case, but QuickLoad gives 23631 psi when inputting the 311291 seated 0.25" deep, with 25 grains 5744 powder. That is...

Guys,
without commenting on what happened in the past, both Goodsteel and Larry Gibson are reachable via PM. Runfiverun is correct in that Goodsteel is not banned. However he is not able to post on...

I loaded up some rounds today and took them to the range. The cartridge was the 30x57 (XCB) primed with CCI 200s (W-W cases), load was a full case WC872 (55 grains), and the bullet was the NOE 165...
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
This is very good advice. The .358 Win could be a tad short for perfect feed in a Mauser 98 action. Goodsteel (now unjustly banned) developed the 35 XCB (35x57) which is formed from either 7 or 8 mm...
Forum: Factory & Surplus Powder
A 7mm Mauser case takes 55 grains WC872, loaded to bullet base with .3" seating depth. I shoot it all the time in the 30XCB (7mm Mauser necked up to 30 cal). Gives me 2150fps with a 160 grain cast...
