Having come into 15 bars or so, I keep thinking to try adding some to my COWW muffins s next time I cast; thing is, I'm happy with my results as -is. May just sell am

I picked up 3 of them from Optics Planet on sale for $20 each, refurbished, free shipping. That was about 5 yrs ago; all still going strong, no fiddling with zero adjustments- a good deal!!

I have one that looks identical, and feel the same way about it! Mines a bit younger, being an '81 model, but nothing's changed. Shoots dime sized groups with standard velocity ammo, when i manage to...
I tried a standard Blackhawk in 44 mag, always had problems with vertical stringing- my groups might be 2" wide at 25 yds, but 7" tall- traded it for a redhawk, much better-( for me) still love the...
Maybe don't size them at all- I've had good luck w/ lee TL 240's, straight whl wt lead- no sizing die, from my Redhawk, lubed w/ JPW-Alox

Well said, Blackwater; i have witnessed the effectiveness of a well placed 22 on deer myself.
After reading these posts, I'm cured of any plans to disassemble my Model B- i did remove the extractor once to clean the hidden gunk behind it, an seem to recall having a time with it! Thanks for...
I've been using my 0.7 cc Lee dipper for years w/ 158 gr SWC's- seems that is now considered a bit warm, as it translates to 6.4 gr. Unique- my rugers like 'em, though, and I'm staying with it.
Forum: Shot Loads For Pistols
I've done it just about the way you're describing, used RedDot powder. Just make sure you use enough of a powder charge to get decent penetration
I've shot quite a few out of 30-30 and 44's, no filler, red dot powder.
I think there's a reluctance these days to even acknowledge the 38/44 loads among many modern reloaders. I started a similar thread a few years back; not much support for the idea. A lot of concern...
If you mean .380/9mak mags being the same, yes, they are. I have a Russian originally chambered in .380, to switch to 9mm mak, you just swap barrels.

Thanks all for the quick responses- gonna pick up some acetone next time I'm in town!

I'd like to try this newfangled PC process, but all my cast boolit stash already wears a couple coats of JPW/Alox. Is there a good way to clean them off, or, do you even need to?
Forum: Leverguns
If your risk tolerance is too low, you need to find another hobby. Round nose cast boolits in a tube magazine are what everybody used for decades- 100% safe? Maybe not, but close. If You want 100%...

Thanks for all the great replies- I'll try a bit more velocity, it's the easy fix-(if it works)! It that doesn't do the trick, will clean and slug the barrel. Need to do that anyway. Bullets were...

Loaded some 160 gr cast boolits from an old single cav lee mold; ACWW, tumble lubed twice w/ 40-40-10 (alox and JPW). Boolits measure ,310. powder charge 7 gr Red Dot. Gun is an older Glenfield mod...
Forum: Black Powder Cartridge
Could be wrong, but I've always thought they were meant as an impromptu rest for use out in the field while hunting. Not supposed to take the place of a bench rest.
I started out loading 15gr blue dot (1.3 cc dipper) with. 240 gr cast boolits, seems as good as anything else I have tried from both my redhawk and 77/44. Wish I could find more BD- haha!

thanks-- was wondering if anyone had success with lee molds and micro groove barrels. Way more in my price range! They also make a 170 gr I've been looking at. The RD and NOE molds are a bit pricey...
Forum: Hunting with CB's
Gonna make one of these myself this weekend. Wonder what thickness of plywood you'd need to hold a 230 pound fella?
Forum: Leverguns
Well,Claude, probably because it's a lever gun question and a hunting question . I also want to buy a mold for my micro groove 30/30, so if anyone has a recommendation, let's hear it.
I've made these using wads cut from a styrofoam "to go" food container, #9 shot, unique or red dot powder, and wood glue on a toothpick to seal/ waterproof the top wad. Killed a lot of cotton mouths ...
Goodwill- type stores sell old laptop computer cases for a couple dollars- well padded, lots of dividers inside. I carry up to 4 guns with ammo in them, the shoulder straps are nicely padded also
