They used to make flash paper. Bookies supposedly kept their records on it. It could be bought in novelty stores. Seems like it ought to make good paper ctgs. Anyone try it?

Turns out I could have gotten it locally. The Judge has a couple in his yard. When I see him going to the hoosegow, I'll harvest mine. I really don't want to have to work with a log, anyhow.

Where I get Tree of Heaven is in the power line right-of-way. They give it a major haircut every 5 years. Doesn't kill it, but keeps it in check. Less work for me, and the sprouts aren't too big to...

Yeah, we have Tree of Heaven here. And it does make good powder. When I can make a batch with Paulownia, I'll have something for comparison. As to being invasive, it already grows locally, and a chin...

For those who are making their own powder, I planted a Royal Paulownia seed last spring. It is about 8 feet tall now. Meanwhile, a neighbor brought over a trunk section of the same that I can barely...

Thank you, Pietro. That makes it simple. Just didn't have a clue.

I've seen some old cans and old labels calling their powder "HG". One was a Dupont 1/4 lb. can with "HG" on one side and "FFFG" on the other. Anyone know what the "H" is for?

It has not been mentioned, but diet coke has phosphoric acid in it that eats corruption, but will not harm the steel. I have used it to loosen breech plugs. Have a Tower musket which had been loaded...

If you go to a machine shop, they can make you one. Mine has a 2"pvc cylinder surrounded by a heavy piece of steel. If it gets galled, new piece of pvc fixes it.

Can is 8". Media is mostly 1/2", 5/8", and a few 3/8" lead filled copper tubing sections. I finally just swapped ends with the can every half hour. Its been pretty humid here.

what I've got is an old Thumbler's Tumbler. I have replaced the old (small) motor with a good one. I'm running it at about 60 rpm. It didn't cake up before, but now when I take off the lid, it is...

My brother and I both got new Model 25 Daisys for Christmas in 1962. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven! The folks gave us each 3 of the nickel boxes, (Dad figured they would last us a month)....

I've been pressing wafers in a die between termite shield discs; about a teaspoon between each, so they come out pretty thin and easier to break up. For drying, I use a convection oven after I get it...

I've been using a splatter screen. Its good for 3F and dust, but I get more dust than anything. Would casin make the grains harder and less dusty?

Thanx for the info on screens. I have a stock of 2nd hand rea strainers, but there's gotta be a better way.

Sea Monkey, it is Avoirdupois, which is 1/16 oz.
Good information here, backed up by experience. Interesting to find out that I'm not the only one who ever loaded shot w/o powder. After that I...
