Keel is off the truck and onto a tarp
I've decided how to attack it. I'm going to pretty much what grabler said. Cutting strips in the fiber glass with a diamond coated saw blade on my skill saw....

I'm not too concerned about it. I will powder coat it and water quench and shoot. It will only be used for 9mm 124gr bullets pushing 900FPS mainly. I'm going to experiment with high velocity with gas...

It wouldn't be unattended, just viewed from afar lol. I have a digital laser thermometer to check temps as well.

I could do that. I have an excavator and skid steer to move it/hang it with. You used a normal handheld propane torch? How much propane did you use??!

Yep. I had the same blade for cutting a stone mantle for my fireplace a few months ago, might be able to dig it out without buying a new one. I'm going to get a lead dust respirator at HD this...

See pic of keel. Yes it is shot I can see. In the top left you will see some pieces already removed. The lead chips off fairly...

How do I tell? It just looks like lead bbs glues together with epoxy.

I like that idea. The lead separates easy enough with a chisel and hammer it should work. I'm going to lay it on a tarp to catch the scrap.

I've also got a circular saw with a 16" blade. It's the giant makita one.

Apparently the fiber glass is quite flammable. I'd rather not burn it so if the lead just melts out thats even better.

Dang it I can't get the pic to attach. The site keeps failing. Anyway its a 6ft keel wrapped in fiber glass and has a 3/8" piece of steel running through the middle of it.

I picked this up this weekend. Thoughts on lead extraction? My best idea yet is to buy a sawzall (reciprocating saw) from harbor freight with several blades and cut into chunks and burn in a big pot...

Got any extra you want to send me for testing :) ?

Sweet... I'm going to order some checks from Sages. Thanks for the info guys! Hope I can make this work and save some dollars!

A lee push through size die will work? Do you run the bullet through backwards or anything or just set the GC on the stem, set the bullet and ram it home?
I was looking at getting some of those...

For me its about keeping the compensator from getting gunked up. Some shooters are pushing the coated 9mm bullets that fast without gas checks no issue in the bore, but the comp cleaning/maintenance...

How do you crimp the plain base gas checks on the 9mm bullets? Any idea of max velocity? I've been thinking about doing PC bullets with a gas check for a 9 major open gun. Talking about a 124gr going...

Interesting, I will have to get a few lbs to try from PV on my next order. I'm in the slow process of switching to faster powders. I am getting an 8lb jug of Ramshot Competition. If it feels the same...

Does anyone know what kind of geometrical shape the Vectan AS is? I'm hoping it's similar to the same shape as that BA10 so it will meter well in my 550. Also AS is $6 cheaper per lb on Powder...

So did anyone ever get any and have decent results (particularly in 9mm)? I was thinking of ordering a keg myself. Would be using in 9mm and .45ACP mostly.
One square on that target equals one inch FYI.
Thought I would chime in with my Glock story and lead bullets. Here is my advice. 1. Slug your barrel and cast /size appropriately. 2. Start at the bottom of the data range and work your way up. 3....

My local gunstore had several kegs of it this past weekend. I didn't grab any though. A little too slow for my needs.
