"Worrying over minutia is, well, worrying over minutia."
My point exactly.
Velocity has its advantages. If not there would not have been a 357 mag in the first place. How much each increment up matters is arguable, but the fact that a 357 is more than a 38 isn't.
Put the...
Great serial number too, sort of matching a Freedom Arms.
Yes, they made ammunition and sold unprimed brass. If you look at their load data, it shows the factory equivalent loads in 240, 260 and 300 gr bullets.
I have a 4" taper barrel with fixed sights and much prefer my friends bull barrel with adjustable sights for accuracy. I highly recommend adding the Volquartsen trigger.
Great shooting guns.
If you can put a scope on it, it becomes easy to find what it takes to get things steady.
I was surprised to find that forearms between knees, bag supported forearms, and even bag supported hands...
Is the front sight blade changeable?
Nice looking gun, great first shot!
In working up loads for the "magnums" (K frames excluded), H110 has ended up the best performer when both velocity and accuracy is considered.
You probably already know this, but H110 accuracy is...
These work in my gun, but work up to and use at your own risk.
210 gr Sierra JHP over 20 gr H110, notes say accurate, mild, 1,225 fps
250 gr Cast Performance w/gas check, over 20 gr H110 (work up...
The model 19 isn't the best gun for digesting extra heat, I'd also pull them.
Nice shooting, and into the glare to boot.
Would they have hit a little lower if the sights had been in shade?
Pachmayr Presentation, pretty is as pretty does. They make quite a difference.
Not sure if the new model grips will fit an old model, but I have a 3 screw with Presentation grips so I know they at...
Could be a non-carbide die...did you lube the cases?
Regarding loads with H110/296...IME, enough powder to fit snugly to the base of the seated bullet (maybe with some very mild compression) has proven to be a happy place for H110/296 in a wide variety...
Right hand/left eye...learned to shoot rifles and shotguns lefty. As a young adult I purchased a revolver and started to shoot it lefty too. After a year or two (even with all previous shooting being...
Bowen Target rear with a quality Patridge front works best for me. I'll concede others are better in dim light, or quicker up close...but day in and day out I'll take black on black.
"I shoot rifles left handed and pistols right handed from my left eye"
This...Rifles and shotguns left handed, handguns right handed. I'll note that I started shooting handguns left handed and...
Have you ever tried the 250s? They work for me.
oops, I see you have tried them all...how about the 250s a little slower?
Whiterabbit:
I'll guess you aren't the 100 yd problem. What .45 copper bullet are you trying? What load/gun? I had to work up an all copper 454 load for CA hunting.
Could be Ransom Rests aren't perfect machines. I have not had great success with mine.
It might be interesting to scope one of those revolvers, benched it with the same load, and compared results...
"Im with Hickok: 1.5-2" groups at 25 is pretty dang good for me"
FWIW, I agree. I also believe revolvers can shoot much better than most people think.
The below was shot with a friend's stock Ruger SBH, lousy trigger and all (it did have a scope). He asked me to see if his load would shoot, I fired twice at 25 and then 3 at 50. I don't know if it...
