Lar45,
I checked that site and all they list is Micro 175 and Micro 195. Would either of those work?
Thanks,

lar45,
Do you know which micro wax can be added to Xlox 350 to approximate the Alox 2138F. I have used Xlox 350 50/50 by weight with bees wax and it worked just fine though it does seem a bit...
Forum: Gas Checks
I think if you use .3095 bullets in a .311 bore, even with a gas check attached with a .311 die you will get some pretty serious leading due to powder gas blow by. If you are shooting a .311 bore you...

I'll take one of the Alox 350.

I have used WC872 in 30-40 Krag and 30-06. I use an electric pencil as a vibrator to settle the powder down.

Elroy,
Best thing is with some sort of thin probe push one side of the gas check until it is side ways in the neck and then with a very long, slim, needle nosed pliers etc. pull the gas check...

244407 These are two fine single shots. Just not sure about those North Dakota guys, must be those balmy winters they have.

That 31-210H mold looks good but in my 1896 Krag rifle it would be a bit large with the ogive at .303 diameter. I'm using a bullet from a 311284 NOE mold sized to .311 or .313 with the ogive right at...
Forum: Boolit Lube !
Emmerts lube works for me for pan lubing, should work well with your tapered bullet.
"Emmert's Home Mix (50% pure natural beeswax, 40% Original Crisco and 10% Canola Oil)"
Place bullets base...
You can just Beagle the rear part of the mold or driving bands, the nose diameter will not increase that much. I have done this to a 311284 mold. Try it.

EDG & dragon813gt have the problem identified. I oven temper wheel weight alloy 30 caliber bullets just below the slump temperature and then quench, if I do not check and size them right away they...
Avenger442,
Just FYI to this thread. I have a 45-70 Lee Handloader (1978) with the load chart which lists 42.2 grains of IMR 4350 for 450 to 500 grain bullets using the 3.1cc powder measure scoop....

Neverhome,
Why do you need the bullets hardened so quickly? I find that if I do not size & lube my bullets right away after quenching they get hard enough to be difficult to size by the next day. ...

I have hardened straight wheel weight bullets (basically the alloy he was using) in a small toaster oven and gotten hardness as he described. I have noticed as he did that if the tin content is...

There is some loading data about the slow powders on "Castpics" "Surplus Powder Data".
I thought there was info specifically for the 30-40 in "Castpics" but I can not find it.

Mark,
I'm using the Lyman 446110 which I currently size down in steps, .446, .439, .430 to .427, and then paper patch up to .434 for my particular barrel / throat diameters. It is a bit tedious...

I just talked to NOE to order two top punches, a .301 nose sizer and 1000 30 cal gas checks.
