Dlbarr, The 45-70's I have are a CSA 1885 High wall 30" heavy barrel and a Navy Arms "Pedersoli" 1871 with a 30" heavy barrel. I have two Handi's a 280 and 243 the 280 I reload with reloader 19.

Good luck with 45-70, They are fun to shoot! I reload with IMR4198 and have an awesome recipe for it. Is it a Buffalo rifle or the Handi rifle?

That is so true RFD, I have a Navy Arms Pedersoli replica rolling block and CSA high wall. The rolling block just seems more nostalgic "historic" than the high wall.

I have two Handi's and both needed the forearm floated. What a difference that made! If that doesn't do it you need to look at your load. Both my 45-70's love IMR 4198 they are not Handi's though.

Jim, I ground down a thick washer and fit it in the forearm lug hole. Then I deburred it and painted it black, and my 6" group went down to .750" with reloaded ammo.

30/30, Nice rifles! I like the Highwall and the Tasco scope. But all are great rifles. I see you like the .30/30.
