I used to pay $25 for a 5gal bucket. When the price here went to $50 & almost half was non lead, I quit collecting. If you melt them into 1# ingots, you can flat rate box them for $1/# easy.

For my LHP I go 20-1 lead/tin for bullets 1000-1300fps. For under 1000fps, 25-1 seems to work well. HP designs can be all over the place though.

If you put enough PC on a bullet to clog the HP, you put on too much.

No but why bother, just toss them. I have manaeged to flux & skim enough at lower temp to remove a lot of zinc contaminates in a pot of alloy. Flux, skim, repeat.

With proper fit & alloy, a gc isnt needed for most handgun applications. Powder coat, eben less of a reason for nowdays, expensive gc.

I think there is diminishing returns going too heavy for caliber. As noted, big bore solids penetrate a lot. A 285gr/45 @ just 1100fps will penetrate more than a 400gr soft @ 2200fps from a 404...
