Back to the bruises, for a bad bruise try Preperation H. It has an analgisic effect and as we all know from the commericals helps reduce swelling.

Really next time you get a bad bruise try it.

It looks to me like it needs a sonic screwdriver for adjustments.

If all else fails alter the mold so that it is a plain base instead a gas check design. :)

Use strapping tape with the fiberglass strands in it. It's a lot stronger. As was stated by KTW, make absolutely positive that it can't shift in shipping or else it will beat the boxes to pieces.

Just keep the melt at 650 or below and you'll be fine. As Felix reminded me a little while back, the melt temp of zinc is lower when alloyed as it is in wheelweights.

I think jonk nailed it, you are seeing a frosted apperance like from running hot. That is also what is causing the whiskers, sounds like the molds vent lines. You are getting good fill. :-)...
