I use a center punch as above and a dial caliper like the one in a previous post.

I try to get the same stroke for every test (not hard to do) and then measure the depth of the dent.

My six cavity drops the boolits at 161-163grns

They shoot great and I cast some up for a friend that uses them hog hunting.

I cast them hard and water quench.

I like to use them for action...

I use full metal jacketed bullets to break in my barrels.

Lead is too soft to do what is needed for breaking in a barrel unless you are using polishing compound on the lead boolits :bigsmyl2:.

Well folks we all in this together!

Use one pot to melt your lead and an other to cast.

This keeps the crap out of the casting pot and you can cast full speed!

With minimal drips.

Well I finally got the time to cast size and lube some of these.

I loaded some up on top of 4.7gr of W231 and also 5.3gr W231.

I run a stock colt 1911 government series 80...using a 22# spring....

any luck on finding a new manufacturer?

I use W231 and it will shoot a little smokey but when I upped the charge a little the smoke lessened and the keyholeing went away.

Here is an update on the lead harvesters at our club.

There sprayed the vegetation and waited three weeks for it to die and disintegate.

Someone told me how to do it when I first started reloading for the 303 British...I was using 30 caliber gas checks and had to open them up.

Have fun!

Use can use the small end of a ball pien hammer to open up the gas check also.... and an advantage is that you have a handle to help locate and hold your check down.

For the guys and girls that use alot of lead specials in magnum chambers just get a chamber reamer from Dave Manson at Manson precision Reamers.

A few light turns with it during your cleaning...
