Think I would check with the local scrap yards, everything I can find has wheel weights going for .31 currently, clean lead is in the .60 range.
Wheel weights have lots of steel on them...

My preference is odorless mineral spirits and soft bristled brush, and a little high pressure air is always nice! Can buy it at most hardware stores or if you have access to a parts cleaner happy...

Nothing near as exotic as some of the stuff here but one ton old school diesel, go slow and make it just about anywhere the rest of the crew will this trip did was out with some 4runners and such...
