I curious, why does everyone think that it would be uncrimped and re crimped? Couldn't the screw just have been installed on the finished cartridge (no, I'm not about to do that...but someone else...
Has anyone here made their own wedge or version of a tru-ball just to test accuracy (throwing economics out the window here of course)?
Seems to really clean them up. Looks good, thanks for sharing. Will be curious how the Lyman 525 works out for you. I just got the mold a while back and haven't had time to pour any. Side note, saw...
Load a few subsonic....and a few supersonic and see if any difference. Should be a fun experiment.
I like solidworks and have a copy. Some like sketchup as mentioned above.
Instead of hot glue, wax, or bar top epoxy...would a copper gas check be better? I would think the copper would help control the expansion and swelling of the base. It also wouldnt "strip" as easy as...
Thanks longbow. I still owe away and od barrel measurement. Tried a handful of buckshot chokes. Including Carlson coyote and xxf ported turkey choke. All the way down to improved cylinder. Turns out...
Very interesting. I'd think that plaster would be a good idea. Just coat the shot in recluses 45/45/10 lube first.
The maverick is good if you do not require screw in chokes. They have a hunter model with longer barrel and screw in chokes, but you lose the picatinny scope mount. I will measure the barrel OD at...
Good point RMc. Man I enjoy reading those old articles.
Thanks Longbow, ended up putting a 3-12x scope. I need to measure the bore to see what im working with.
Im sure it can be removed with some tinkering and driving out a pin. However, I think there's better options out there. Got the slug/shot combo gun last night. Put a scope and sling on it. Haven't...
Very enjoyable read, thanks for sharing. The slo mo video still showed the vitt having a little bit of wobble in rotation...but only on some of the flights.
Not sure how well it would work by wet/wax pressing.....but you could try rough machining a few from mdf board they use to make cheap furniture/cabinets. Just for a few prototypes. You also could do...
Well....i just got my Lyman 525 gr mold in yesterday. It'll be fired out of a 24" barrel with the 5x scope mounted directly to the barrel (break open over under). I also bought a Carlson' s rifled...
If you like that mossberg..be forewarned...if its pointing downward...it will not fire. Not good for self defense, especially if you have stairs in the home. There's a swinging pendulum inside the...
Very interesting testing. With so many variables, it seems to be an art more than a science.
Thanks for sharing.
Not sure if this helps, but take a look at shock wave location as a function relative to the speed of sound. Obviously it will change based on the shape of the bullet, but still gives a general idea....
Longbow, question for you...
If a round ball has a "hockey puck" or a "trombone" shaped trajectory, can we assume that it starts out with no spin, and then gradually picks up spin as it goes from...
I read some of his articles, very good stuff.
I was surprised to see the revolver he had modified.
I actually take a 460 case and neck it down so it fits the full length of the cylinder of my...
I would think you would have to add metal for the riflings to the barrel instead of cut metal away to ensure that the rifling engraved the bullet. Additive instead of subtractive manufacturing...
