I would be one of those crazies -- except mine is a DMax and not a BFR.
The SRH I had with the 5-inch barrel was perfect. Easy to carry, accurate. 5-inches or thereabouts is a good length for these revolvers.
Dang, I was thinking I was going to read a tale about a hunt in Africa.....:bigsmyl2:

The last two I killed a couple of months ago. The first with my .500 Maximum and the second with my .45 Colt Bisley.

That is my reasoning as well. Parts availablity should something fail. Go Blackhawk and never look back.
For me, 9 1/2 is just too long to be practical IMO. That is the one I would cut. I had one SRH cut back to 5-inches and it was perfect.
It just takes some getting used to. Just keep using it even when you are sitting in front of the television -- just don't shoot the TV.:kidding:
Perhaps you are correct. I know, I talk to Ross on a regular basis, but he never felt completely happy with the .44 and much prefered the .45 -- still does for that matter. I too believe the .429...
I failure on a kudu and the loss of the animal with the .44 mag pushed Ross into the .45 Colt and he said the following about using the .44 mag in Africa: "Many could be taken with the .44 Magnum,...

I hunt with handguns almost exclusively nowadays. I just get a whole lot more out of it than I ever did with a scoped rifle.
We never loaded the heavy/long bullet in the .500 and I never left it there. Only the light bullet. I will look to see what I have.
We never used the heavy bullet in the Linebaugh -- only the .50 Alaskan. The 460 grainer (same bullet minus a lube groove) was the one we tried in the .500 Linebaugh and only one shooting session.
I am defending no one. You wanted to know why FA decided not to chamber in the .500 JRH and I told you to call the source -- the actual source. Nothing more, nothing less....... You seem to be...
Again, they chose not to. Here is the number (307) 883-2468. Call them and ask for Bob Baker, and then ask him why he chose not to use it. He was under no obligation -- monetarily or otherwise --...
What in God's name are you talking about, Jim? They decided not to go with the .500 JRH, nothing more, nothing less. Get the facts or you will? From whom? What difference does it make why?...
Jeez, what are you getting defensive about. I come in peace, man.
Freedom decided not to chamber revolvers in that particular caliber.
You were unsure in this post -- that is what I was refering to.
