Michael,
I used 18 gr of 2400 over the 240 grain CBE bullet when I was firepolishing the barrel of my RUM. I extrapolated that load from some 300 Weatherby data in my lyman manual. The best list...

I had written John Lee about something like this in 2010 and got the response from him below that stated they were very unlikely to add it as a standard item but I could make one myself. Midway...

I used a sawzall and just cut the bottom off, then welded angle iron legs to it with 3/4" rebar welded in the corners of those legs to add strength. made it into a bottom pour smelter and it can...
No. I usually try to stay at that distance or closer for hunting and I agree with you that the hog would never know the difference.
I bought the mold from CBE (www.castbulletengineering.com) but don't know of any commercial casters that are using it.
Unfortunately no, 100 is as far as it goes. The one with 300 yard lanes...
Okay I see what you are talking about. I will get some more of that load together and see if that continues. And I will look around for some higher quality targets instead of these cheap waxy ones....
I thought they were still pretty round. The macro setting on the camera definitely creates a fisheye look at the edges. Here is the group without the macro setting.

Just an update from the 100 yard line. All of the constants listed in post #12 apply except these are from 100 yards.
I dropped the AA5744 to 15 grains to try and get subsonic but ended up at 1152...
Not sure yet. Only loaded the 35 and the range only had openings on the 50 yard line. I will load some this week and hopefully make it back the range next week.

Got to the range to test the CBE 240 gr in 30-06. The constants in all of these loads are 80% WW- 20% PB, PPU brass, WLR primers, sized .3105, Hornady gas checks, Darr + JPW pan lubed and OAL of...
Will do, thanks guys.
Here are recommendations from Accurate.
Caliber: .30-06 Springfield.
Barrel length: 24"
Powder: Accurate - 5744(r).
I am hoping it will stabilize fine in the 10" twist but won't know for sure till I get some down range. I took a chance on it because I saw JeffinNZ's post that said it was 1.25" before sizing. ...
Thanks Rico1950, I had checked mine a couple year's back when that recall came out and it doesn't look like a newer one has been issued.
Ben,
That helps quite a bit as I have a Lyman 47 with...
Thank you Don. Those velocities would be what I am looking for initially.
I wonder if that would be considered getting into Secondary Explosion Effect (SEE) territory or not. I have not heard of...
I just got the CBE 316-240 mold and am having trouble finding good starting data for the powders I have. Does anyone have 240 gr (or 250 gr), 30-06 data using Red Dot, AA5744, Varget or Reloder 22?...

I have found the cheapest pan lubing container for this is the plastic pans that Stouffers Lasagna's or Hormel Roasts come in. After you have dinner and wash them out, you have a free flexible...
Singleshot,
Not sure which profiles you tried but here is a 240gr, .314, bore-riding truncated cone that is 1.243" long. Says it will fit in the 2XL blocks and at that length should be stable...

JesterGrin,
I have done a fair bit of research on both the 375 Whelen and 400 Whelen for myself (still haven't decided which) and there is a Handloader article from July 1991 (no. 152) that W.G....
I don't have experience with any of these but current production molds that are at or above 210gr that I am aware of are Lyman 311284 210gr, NEI #65 210gr, NEI #65A 210gr, Hoch 310225 225gr.

I have found that dull look can also occur because you have too many cases in the tumbler and they aren't tumbling but rather vibrating against each other. Reducing the number of cases until the...

I don't have a hardness tester so these are guesses. I originally used WW with a bit of tin added in, oven treated and guesstimated them at 22-24 BHN. Since then I used WW, sweetened with a small...

I have had good success with the Lee C309-170 using 29.5 gr of Accurate 5744 in my Savage. My '03 Springfield likes the 28.5 gr load according to my notes. The average velocity of those loads is...

My 309-170 (single cavity) is .980 long with a bearing length of .505 and sized to .310 with Darr lube weighs ~177.5 grains with WW.
On a side note, my 309-200 (double cavity) is 1.135 long with a...

If the web is too far out, no amount of crimp is going to change that. Does the Sigma and XD fully support the chamber or are you getting bulged brass.
If those support the chamber, did you...
