I had my lead level checked also. I started smelting and casting in Nov. 09. Mine is a 3 and I am pretty careless. I don't know what it was before I started but they told me the upper limit is 19....

I agree with you, the product should work. I have tormented trying to get the Lee molds to work correctly. With suggestion from this site and vendors willing to exchange defective molds, I have...
Thanks for the response. I have only 2 cavity molds. Of the 5, One of them was out of round and the other the mold blocks did not line up correctly. I lee-mented the rest and got them working pretty...
I am about to give up on Lee molds for various reasons. I own 5 and with suggestions from this site and return policies of different suppliers, I got them usable.
If I were to switch to RCBS or...

If I were unsure of the tin content of the mix that I have already cast into ingots, how should I judge whether I need to add tin or not? How much? Again, thanks for all the info.

Thanks for all the replies! Think it would be safe to use to up the tin content in my lead?

I cast around 100 9mm 124 gr. 2r boolits from a Lee 2 cavity TL mold. I haven't shot any yet. I let 50 air cool and 50 water cooled. The bhn on the water cooled is around 20 after 4 weeks. The...

I just got my Lee .45 200 gr. TL mold to cast correctly thanks to suggestions here. What powder and weight would be a good start. My boolits have a BHN of around 10. I have a lot of Unique and...
Thank you for all the replies. I will try the dawn and the other suggestions. I got the new mold today. Probably won't be able to do much with either till this weekend.
Got a Lee .45, 200 gr. SWC double cavity bullet mold from Midway. The forward driving band would not cast well from one cavity. I cleaned the molds with brake parts cleaner and tried smoking, Khrol...
I use Midway case lube on my cast bullets and have no problems sizing them. I think it is cheaper than using the Alox. I always re-lube with LLA or a recipe from this web site after I size.

What is the minimum hardness for lead when casting for the .45 ACP and the 9mm? I have read that a BRN of 22 is required due to the beating the round takes going from the magazine to the chamber. I...

I had the same indication with some lead someone gave me. When I melted it down and cast it into ingots, the ingots were kind of blue. I melted it back down and recast the ingots at a lower...

Thanks for all the replies. Why doesn't Lee just make a flat base mold for a tumble lube bullet?
I spray case sizing lube on my bullets before I size them. I use Midway. Seems to work fine and is cheaper.
I have a Lee tumble lube mold. The area that forms the bevel base has some rough spots. They were like this new. Has anyone ever removed this portion of the mold making it a true flat base? I talked...
