Know any hobby machinists?
I'm not familiar with the Herter's Super U press; but if it is anything like a Pacific super C, the ram shouldn't be too hard to turn to diameter and mill a few slots.

I used to shoot quite a few Lee 312-185 (IIRC mine drops at ~187 from ACWW) in front of 16 grains of 2400. Mine chronographed at just under 1600 fps from my 26" Parker-Hale barrel in .308. I never...

Seldom to never. I am blessed with having more than one melting pot though.
My Lee production pot has pure(ish) lead in it for my C&B revolvers.
The 4-20 and Promelt have WW, and the Magnum...

As long as you don't have air conditioning in your truck, it shouldn't be too awful bad to change the heater core. Most of the ones I have replaced have been in Ford pickups, and as the trucks got ...

Hollow point pins aren't all that difficult to make, as long as you have a rod the correct size for the hole in the mold. I made one years ago for a 358429HP and if memory serves, I used a piece of...

Something doesn't sound right to me. How are you determining your lead is at 770 degrees if you have no way to of gauging temperature? Please do not believe what a dial setting says.

I bought mine used at an estate sale, so I have never seen the bottom of the valve rod.
But, if it is anything like mine; your grandkids will be using it long after you and your kids are gone.

Since cerrosafe isn't all that hot even when molten, I think a funnel made from aluminum foil will be fine. I would almost bet you use a funnel made from heavy paper.
A top eject lever action has...

Randy,
Thirty years ago or so I had a Mossberg Model 600 (same as a Model 500 with Mossberg's version of a Poly choke) that had the choke messed up. Probably why I got it for cheap.
Out came the...

An electric casting pot is so much more comfortable than a cast iron pot on top of a camp stove it isn't even funny. I believe the old style RCBS Promelt is the cream of the crop, at least with...

Nice write up, it brought back some fond memories of when I was a kid going fishing with Grandma and Grandpa. Even a memory of one time Dad and I were fishing and got rained out by a lightning storm,...

From what I read on the internet years ago after I got the RMSF, it takes about three hours for the tick to transmit the disease to a human. Which made sense to me because I felt the little bugger...

Don, a few years ago I got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a tick. Not necessarily a fun thing, but it was obvious there was something wrong. First tick bite in my life that looked like I had a...

Good first post.
.45 Basic brass will be too small in diameter. As you noted BACO appears to use .50-110, although I think they may have a way to stretch the length of brass.
My advice is to...
Modern-Bond mold handles are what all others strive to be. At least in my experience.
I only have one M-B mold, it casts a ~230 grain ball for the .45ACP (don't remember the numbers offhand) but...
Another option is a Tyler T-grip or a reasonable facsimile of it. I made a functional copy out of walnut for my little transitional pre Model 30 snubbie.
One of these years I'll get around to...

Do you really expect this bunch of enablers to dissuade you from buying a functional, safe firearm?

As others have already said, replace it. A new one will probably be quieter and may or may not be more effective (move more air) and efficient (cost less to run).
I would not expect a modern one...

That cross bolt jig makes it look easier than it really is. Kind of wish I had bought one back in the day.

I do not know, but you may try some of the parts houses, even if they don't list them in stock.

Thanks for explaining why a #1½ should not be chambered for a larger diameter cartridge. I must have read that in the past, but did not retain it in the easy recall locker.

It will be interesting to see if it is a .43 Spanish, as listed, or a .45-70 as you say it should be given its configuration.
One thing I have slowly learned about old guns is to never say never....

My wag is that the reason for less recoil in 20 gauge is that there is usually less powder, and maybe slower burning powder at that.
It is kind of difficult to directly compare 12 and 20 guage...
