I know that slow and heavy is the recommendation for suppressed loads, but the drop after 100 yards with a 45-70 is going to be...

One of the positives of hunting with a 45-70 in lead is that you don't have to worry about ruining a lot of meat.
You start and end with a larger hole than most calibers expand to, and it should...

How did you end up with a 3" hole? I have a hard time even finding the holes once I get the hide off.
By far, my favorite rifle.

I second this.
Pick up a the Lyman cast bullet handbook and check the load recipes. #2 is not suitable for all loads and powders, obviously, but a large portion of the calibers will have a loadout...

Is:
1. RCBS .38 Spl set, $20
Roll or taper crimp; carbide or regular; RN, SWC, WC or other seating plug?
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Easy there, big spender. That would still be $9 a pound. I keep mine to $3 or less.

Where do you get the upgraded parts? I didn't see them on the leeprecision.com site.

That is a 15% antimony alloy. For comparison, linotype is only 12% and it breaks instead of bends.
Basically, antimony is hard, but brittle. You don't want too much.

I had a similar thought: brass will spring back and lead won't (or not enough to notice). Maybe you are effectively resizing your bullet during your crimping process and rendering your crimp...

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook suggests #2 for 350gr and 20:1 for 405gr for Win86 and 1985 loads. #2 for all trapdoor loads. #2 for all Ruger loads except for the 450gr, which gets a 10:1.

Jacketed and cast powder loads are not interchangeable.
Your Academy Sports carries some Hogdon powders. Have you just asked them if they can get 4198 for you?
If not, surely you drive over to...

They are $120 over at buffaloarms.com. Plus another $18.86 for shipping. I have been keeping an eye out for one under a hundred.

I'm jealous. Eventually I will find a used cabine tree or LBT, or even a Saeco for cheap.

You are shaking my faith in our grand old alloy calculator, Hickory. It only shows a 12.7.

It's really just an excuse to buy some super hard anyway ;)
Where do you actually find -type? Other than ebay.

Mikes around .37 inches thick and is very easy to bend. Guess it is time buy some rotometals super hard.

I acquired 60 lbs of lead today, but was not told where it came from. So far, all I have dealt with is wheel weights and range scrap. Is this roofing lead or what precisely?

Done for now. I may add a thermocouple connector to the front at some point. I have the SSR mounted directly to the aluminum case, so some testing is in order to see if I need to add a heatsink to...

Is it actually the PID that is 400C or is it the thermocouple that comes with it?
My Rex C100-FK07 is rated to 1372C, but came with a 400C thermocouple. If you get a FK02 PID, then you are stuck...

I got my non-pneumatic Star last year on Ebay for $120 with a .358 die (probably have to get myself a .357 now).
Lathesmith on here makes fantastic hardened dies for it.
