Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Testing RPM limits with my copper alloy in my 8-twist 260 Rem. 24" barrel.
I made it to just over 240K RPM before accuracy went south. Velocity with the 142gr RCBS SIL slug ran just under 2700...

RPM is a thing....
I was having a hard time getting the HT cast boolits to shoot decent in the Ruger American Ranch 16" 7 twist until I tried the alloy with added Cu and HT. I have had very good...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Update: Both COWW and COWW+SOWW alloyed with copper are working well at 2700 fps - 10 twist barrel. Solidly inside 1.5MOA and making good hits at 500 yds on steel. I did manage to get the COWW...

I have restarted the copper alloy project again. Some success so far using COWW and adding Zepp. Powder coat and Heat treating for 1 hour at 450 deg. Cartridge is 308 Win. in a Rem 700 with a 24"...
UPDATE - Found that the dacron filler was giving me the issue with build-up just in front of the case mouth. All loads fired since have left no residue. Also, I switched to the 314299 210gr boolit...
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
The 300 Savage was the parent case for the 308 Win. I have reformed some 308 brass into 300 Savage. Works well.
Popper, suggestions for a reamer or something to break that edge without lengthening the throat? Criterion SS match barrel that shoots J-words very well but would prefer not to change the current...
UPDATE: 308 Win - 10 twist - 18" bbl - 311359 COWW powder coated heat treated (450 deg / 1 hour) boolit - velocity raised to 2400 fps with ok accuracy - just above that the RPM threshold kicked in...
Well I concur with Larry Gibson's RPM threshold data having experienced it for myself during this testing. 10 twist barrel shoots well at 1800 fps with 122gr boolit and accuracy goes radically...
Found an accurate load with the 308 using the 311359. Will now try to see if they can be pushed faster before running into the RPM threshold and if my experience with "accuracy nodes" using...
Has anyone experienced accuracy nodes with cast boolits?
My experience with long range precision rifles has shown that there are certain intervals of velocity which show the best accuracy. Most...
Finally got to the range today and results at 50 yards showed that the 311359 boolit fit to the throat of .310 faired the best over the others at .308, .309 and .311. Throat was measured at .310. ...

In my experience, a GC boolit will be more accurate than one without.
I have a quantity of IMR-4227 to use and would like to see how it works with light boolits in the .308.
Anyone have any thoughts or experience with such a combination?
Thanks in advance.
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
IMR-4227 works very well with that boolit.

Alloy may be too soft - how were they cast? air cooled or water-dropped? How long from being cast were they fired?
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
50.0 IMR-4064 using 150 FMJ - runs around 2750 - 2800fps.

Congrats on your load success!
No need for small base dies. Regular full-length size dies work just fine. Especially since the FAL chambers are very "generous".
Twist rate on Savage 110BA is 1:9"
Friends 110BA has also experienced stuck cases with the PPU brass. It's like a muzzle loader only just to knock out the spent brass. :(
Now switching over to...
In my CCMG PP gas 16" bbl I'm using 9.8 or 1680 for reliable functioning and good accuracy.
10.5gr of RL-7 won't hold back on last shot consistently. Also used 9.2 of IMR-4227 with Win SR primers...

need a little better description of the "jam"
is the round still in the chamber and you cannot retract the bolt?

CS86,
Naked boolits were traditionally lubed and sized with a GC.
The PC'd boolits (also GC'd) withstood the higher velocity just fine although I did have to sand the nose down from .258 to...
Forum: Coatings and Alternatives
Started working with PC'd boolits in the .260.
Using some old IMR-4320 (34gr) at around 2400fps gave me a 1.3" 5-shot group at 100yds using the RCBS 140 SIL GC cast from WW and WD - sized to...
