TonyT has the right idea. I go with 4.0 gr of Trail Boss over the 125. Can't be double charged, accurate and very little recoil. Also this same load can be used in 38 Special.

According to Mike at Hodgdon, 49 gr is one the max load.

I use 12.5 grs Trail Boss under my 405 and it gets about 990 fps. For down - n -dirty, I use 40.0 gr of H4895 under the 405 and it gets about 1424 fps. This last load will take care of about any...

Go with Trail Boss with no worry about double charges, low recoil and can be used with any weight 45-70 slug.

Take a look at Trail Boss and 14.0 gr is a good middle of the road load.

My plink/practice load is 4.0 gr of Trail Boss under the 125. Very accurate in my GP-100 with 4" barrel, very little recoil and about 1000 fps.
