Clean out the shellholder recess of the ram with a cotton swab. Also, inspect that little snap ring as it tends to accumulate primer debris and such.

I can tell you from experience that casting with zinc requires the maximum heat the pot can generate. A couple of problems surface when you get going....

1. From the first cast, the spout...

My BIL put a Limbsaver pull-on recoil pad on his Rem870. It stretched the length of pull way too far for his short arms. (Over an inch+)

At least you did not get an errant live primer in the pot. A similar result...but typically a bit more "coverage". It`s happened to others.
