Y-man, you mentioned that varying lead hardness was your main reason for exploring copper. it is fairly easy to get an approximate hardness by using art pencils, so you should be able to get...
i suggest the lee 7/8ths rather than the 1oz, because it is a lot easier to get them out of the mold in my experience.
Looks like there may just be enough of us in STL casting for shotguns (Veprs in fact) to consider collaborating on a big ingot smelt some time.
Longbow pretty much said what I was thinking, but I will add this one addition. I hope that your very well deserved success won't keep you from tinkering for too long.
I expect that the stock handguard would indeed work just fine with a small side rail.
I dont' take videos, generally speaking, but I cast for my Vepr as well. Of course, Bob knows that, since I cast the first slugs he reloaded.
stick on wheel weight run very hot (850f as i recall) . It took a few pours to get up to temperature, but once I did and go a feel for how to pour so that it filled well, it worked fairly well for...
I found the fit and finish a bit better on my 6 cavs than my 2 cavs, but except for my lemon of a 1oz drivekey, they all worked fine.
To update, I've finally more or less recovered from a bout of the flu and plan to load up my first set of slugs on my mec sizemaster. I also now have the paradox choke and will see how they work...
Sure, and it is a nice enough item by all accounts, but in a forum where people cast slugs, round ball, and bullets to use with reloading, I suspect that a few people may want the fun of designing...
In my new obsession with slug casting, I've picked up a lee 7/8ths and lyman 525 (actually the MP molds double mold version (although that one is still in transit), to add to my lee 1oz, so I'm...
I've heard the same about the 7/8 being superior (as well as using less lead.) My next mold to to try is the lyman 525 style (I've already ordered one of the lovely brass 2 cav ones from mp...
I'll definitely polish and de-burr the drive key before I use it again. I'll also clean, relube (with extra care ), and give it a good smoking. And, then I'll cast more slugs and we'll see how it...
Smoothbore. For me that's my Vepr 12. I generally shoot with my Brother in law, who also has a smooth bore ( a cz 612 in his case).
I sort of want to try one of the paradox chokes Moltot makes...
I'll check the key section for a burr and try and smooth it off. I added a better picture, so please feel free to let me know if they generally look good or if they look like 1oz ingots for my...
It was the last warm(ish) day expected or a while, and I had the afternoon free, so I fired up my lee bottom pour put and put some stick on wheel weights bars in, and took my mold out for a test...

I have the Howard Leights and like them a lot.
There are, it seems far fewer 12 ga slug molds than we might like, but here are he ones that I'm aware of so far:
Lee:
-1oz drive key: A readily available single cavity aluminum mold priced in...
They do have stars, although I have heard that may not be a gurantee any longer.
as to them being cheap 1 an done reloads (they look a bit better quality than THAT to me, though I may be in...
For various reasons, Suprema shotshells from Walmart are my current go to store brand, and they look viable for reloading, but there's absolutely no load data that I can find for them. I've heard...
I'm not familiar with the exact aspects of either as it pertains to shotshells at this time ( I'm sill learning), but they are very different materials, with fairly different properties, so here's...

I dug through the links and found a few that seemed to print well and easily with a 4x6 label printer, so here were my results...

I haven't checked the links all out, yet, but I'm hoping that one or two are targets that work with thermal label printers (eltron Zebra type).
Labels are 4x6 ( the standard opens I use are...

That's dreadful. My post office has an area where you can drop off packages that are ready to go. It's a godsend at this time of year, and every one wins. So sorry that yours doesn't.
