Wondering what bullet people are using for 38-55 long range cowboy shooting? I am thinking of a 300+ gr RN bullet but haven't found molds. I do cast 38-55 flat nose hunting bullets but I'm new to LR...

I use bamboo BBQ skewers to clean off the die when lube builds up. Works slick won't scratch and a lifetime supply is about a $buck.
If the boolit is cast slightly undersize the lube might pass...

Rule of thumb is that the better accuracy comes from the largest cast bullet you can chamber cleanly. A larger diameter bullet enters the rifling straighter and better centred than a smaller diameter...

Heavy freezer bags. Fold the top down 3-4 times and staple it.

Found a good deal on a quantity of Jim Shockey Gold FFG and FFFG. Is it suitable for BPCR use or should I pass on it?
I would agree with that in a regular lubed bullet, but I've got past 2000fps using PC PB ww-alloy bullets every time I tried it - which is only twice but there it is.
I don't think there is a better mold maker in existence. Tom definitely knows a thing or two about building molds and providing customer service.
I've seen a gap on Lee 6c twice. On one an alignment pin had shifted. The other one was a warped block.

Is your Lee Mold a single cavity? They cool much faster than multi cavity molds.
35 seconds is correct, for big bullets I've always needed to run high temps to get good fill-out and adjusted the...

I think you have something there, the cavity wall between the end of the nose and the outside of the mold is very thin.
I cleaned the mold again and it was venting better today, also raised...

Good points, mirror my experience when I started casting 535 postell and 500 gr WFN 45-70 bullets. I'm getting good fill with sharp edges on the grooves in the 700gr bullets. The swirl marks don't...

Good point and makes sense. I didn't consider that.

Ladling. Accurate mold 3-cav. Cleaned well - scrubbed in boiling water and dish soap, rinsed in clean boiling water, and preheated well. I am fairly experienced, I cast about 50,000 bullets a year...

yes for 500gr 45-70. Softer for the MH and Postell bullets.

I cast quite a lot of 500gr and 535gr for 45-70, and some .600" 530gr for Martinin Henry and haven't seen this issue before. The sprue is taking about 35 seconds to cool sufficiently with a fan which...

I have used Mihec's HB wadcutter mold in 44 and 45 calibers for the same purpose, which is to get a better fit on some oversized bores. I don';t shoot these old guns enough to want to build a custom...

I'm just started casting 710gr WFN for 500 S&W. I'm getting some small voids in the nose section and I think it's from pouring too slowly. The holes in the sprue cutter limit the speed I can pour.

But that doesn't make any sense at all.
if criminals are the excuse liberals use to impose gun control on law abiding people, then doesn't that hold true for pain medications also?

I started out with a 3-hole Lee Turret sometime in the 80s. Loaded .223 to .458win, and several dozen more in between. I don't really have any idea how many rounds I've loaded on it, but I know I...

I don't know anything specifically about GT bullets or that bullet in particular. The bullet looks like a reasonable design, the only thing I would question would be if a 2-2-96 alloy and plain base...
