$99 at Dunham’s at times- good price for a knock around. But now learning Taurus is involved, count me out! I already got two of them that don’t work!

35 Rem 336T is my modern first choice.
But my real love is 32-40!
And 38 WCF!
And any of the old ones!
Has anyone ever seen the factory wrench used to install the new SW 2 pc barrels?
Any pictures?
Know the torque the factory uses to install?
Just curious.
Thanks for any info!
Three50seven, what is your coal? To crimp in the crimp groove I ended up with 1.665 - which is fine in my RUGER.
Sharps4590,
The gun was kinda heavy and shot like a big 22! I think I had to make a mainspring for it. Been too long ago!
I did read there were 5 different cartridges based on the same case...
I once had a 9.3 x 72R drilling come thru the shop. That was a cool experience working on it!
Congrats that is so inovative! I always wanted to do something special like that, but never found the time. Hats off to you!
I solved that flyer problem by shooting one shot groups :kidding: But seriously, that’s some fine shooting!
Low Budget Shooter,
Thanks for those fps numbers. It being a SW, what was the coal and where did you crimp?

Lever yes, revolver yes, single shot break down maybe, bolt action never
Hum! Single shot on a savage 94 action or HR shotgun action. That sounds good!
An old timer once told me- “Son, if you’ve never been lost, then you’ve never been anywhere!
Likewise with squibs! It happens!
Important thing is to recognize, adapt and overcome!
But I wonder is...
That is one of the hardest questions I have ever been ask and I frankly don’t have an answer in my poor old brain!
There are so many I love to reload and shoot like 30 WCF, 38 WCF, 44 WCF, 32-40,...
I need a good powder gr. starting point for this new quest.
Oal will be 1.610 or better.
Gun is 6 5/8” RUGER Blackhawk.
Load will be upper range for hunting (eastern US deer, bear, etc)...

Shuz,
Because .429 boolits lead terribly!
.430 also lead terribly!
.431 also leads but not as bad as above two
.432 also leads but is almost manageable without choreboy.
A .432 swages to .4315...

Starting with throat diameter is a good place to begin. But thats only a start! Boolits should be .002 to .004 over groove diameter and brn should be 7-11. Of course it is a vicious circle from...

I scratched a steel sizing die back in the 70s using dirty nickel brass. Switched to carbide and no problems since!

38-40 hands down! Got two and love them! Both group within 4” at 100 yards with iron sights! Probably would do better with someone that can see! I’m old enough to draw my government pension...
You are soooo lucky!!!!!! Let us know the range report with cast boolits!!!!!
Thundarstick is dead on, just be careful to keep the sides perpendicular and only remove a little at a time testing as you go! Easy to remove- very hard to put back! Good luck
I also used the “degrease and blue loctite method” on all the scopes mounted through the years in my small rural gun shop- Never had one come loose (that I know of)
