I really like the Lyman 311299, but what shoots even better for me in a couple of Springfields is the NOE 30 Hunter - aka the 311-190-FN-AK4. Out to 300 yards it will hold 1 MOA with several good...

As well, the Hodgdon site has ".308 Winchester service rifle" data for the 7.62x51 cartridge loaders, limited mainly to target loads for Service Rifle shooting.

I've cleaned up worse surface rust with Kroil and bronze wool. The bronze wool protects the existing blueing much better than even fine steel wool. Kroil lifts the rust better in my experience...

There is no .45 Short cartridge. The 0.898" length is the Cowboy .45 Special case length - essentially a wild cat made for CAS use, but Starline has been talked into making cases so that folks...

These I have shot out to 300 yards with good results.
Lyman 311291 and IMR 4895 at 2050 FPS in a M1 Garand - Took a 200 yard MilSurps competition a couple of weeks ago with that load, other...

Maybe I'm just lucky with my load (above, a 311291 at 2050 FPS with 4895), but it dumps all the brass into a pile 2 feet across at 6-8 feet out on the 4:30 o'clock. Very convenient at the range.

Just to give a "steel clanging" field report of this load. Held off 10 competitors in local military rifle match today while shooting this cast load against their jacketed loads. Only takes a bit...

QuickLoad calculator shows around 1500 FPS.
I get good action function and amazing accuracy on a very tight newish-CMP-build using their current Criterion barrel M1 with 38 grains of IMR 4895...

I'll second the need to strip and clean bolt. I shot my Springfield 1922 (.22 LR, a little nephew of the Springfield 1903) this spring after not shooting it for four years or so. Got about 50% FTF....

My Swede likes the bore riding Lyman 266673 (150 grains), with either 5744 or Reloder7 to make 1700 FPS. And even better, the NOE 269-163 bore rider with 4759 (yeah, what load doesn't like that) at...
Titegroup has a high nitroglycerin content. (About 40% from info I have) That means it will do the things like
Loud
Hot Burn
Able to go from well behaved to way-too-hot quickly as you close in...
Bullet hardness is more important as you start to make rifle slugs. I get excellent plinking performance (1400 FPS) in 30-06 with Brinnell Hardness of 16, and hunting performance (1900-2000 FPS) at...
All are discontinued. Saw a notice from Hodgdon in January '22.
Withdrawal reasons -
I've heard two.
1) They were not able to get CE (European env standards) certification due to some...

Most M1As are barreled with a 1 in 11 twist. Some heavy match barrels 1 in 10.
Easy to check yourself. Put a cleaning rod with a tight fitting patch on a jag in bore, mark the rod with an...

My Swede 96 will keyhole and tip cast slugs starting at about 1700 FPS and faster.
So, I load cast at 1600-1650 FPS. Several molds will hold 1.5 MOA and the Lyman 266673 (150 grain) cast at about...

OK, here's the 42nd or so second opinion - let Doug handle the job. He is giving you straight and accurate info. His work will shoot the same.
good luck, garrisonjoe
1600 FPS is about the sweet spot for cast bullets in the Swede. 25 BNH bullets (water hardened) and Rx7 or 5744 lets me shoot about 1.5 MOA at 100 and 200 yards. With 160 (+/-) grain boolits.

Agree with Sam Sackett. Old Clays did use marker dots that were very similar to Trail Boss donuts.
good luck, garrisonjoe
TG has one of the highest levels of nitroglycerin of any double-base smokeless powder, at 40%. That is where the extra heat comes from. I'd not worry about that or any light cast bullet load...
Not my old faithful powder for cast bullets in 30-06, but in some loads with cast bullets it shines. Like the NOE 30 caliber XCB 165 grain bullet, checked, 19 grains 4198, which has given me 1.75"...

Alloy (and any hardness treatment) should match the chamber pressure of your load.
Velocity matters, for stabilization and lubrication.
Your load makes a ton of difference.
Bullet diameter is...
Loaded .45 Colt with Clays just fine. Large airspace is not a problem. Clays will be a little weak in cold weather - freezing or cooler. Clay Dot substitutes real well at just about the same...
SR-4756 Excellent for 100 or 200 target cast bullet loads in the 30 caliber military rifles and smaller cases.
But, yeah, IMR discontinued production about 8 years ago and I'm on my last can. Sigh....
Ok, a 100 yard load with the RCBS 165 grain silhouette bullet that I have great luck with recently:
From a Springfield 1903, mil sights, 100 yards - I get 0.75" groups pretty regularly.
