I would imagine using soft lead, and loaded much more than 1200 fps, there would be leading. Adding some hard to lessen leading to the mix, could cause the base not to bump. Shooting a 450 gr....

I have several LEE molds, for my 45-70 , that have the hollow base. The cavity isn't as hollow as the old minnie ball. I'm wondering about if these will swell to catch the rifling upon ignition?...
Forum: Muzzleloading.
I watched a video that the guy was shooting a CVA like the one I'm getting and he tried the LEE Improved Minnie and it didn't work to well. He was getting fantastic groups with a LEE .459-500gr grain...

I have on order a new model CVA Accura MR-X .45 cal rifle. I also have ordered a LEE SC MOLD 450-294M IMPROVED MINIE 45 CAL mold. This boolit has a hollow base and I'm hoping will do well in the...
I have looked for a LEE 20 Gauge mold and have yet to find one
Looking at my figures, which in reality are never on the nose, to make bore size I would need to paper patch the slug, which is supposed to drop at .540, with .003 - .004 paper. That's awful thin....
I maybe am reinventing the wheel but I've been scratching on paper, doing some number scrunches. I'm looking at loading some 20 Ga. slug loads using the LEE 540-415-M Single Cavity Mold Mini Ball. I...

I have to share what my progress has been. I have a multitude of 405gr HB FN Lee boolits molded up. Sized them to .459. Loaded some up with IMR 3031. My first load was 48gr loaded in 24 cases and...
Forum: Boolit Lube !
I cast up some Lee 405gr 45-70 bullets and plan on using smokeless powder loads that will be kind of mid velocity. These will be used in a 24" Encore rifle. I have been tumble lubing all my cast...
Forum: Cast Boolits
One of my molds is a Lee 405 grain flat nose and hollow base. It says it throws .457 slugs. Now what I can do is powder coat them and that would bump it up. I don't think I need to go as high as 2000...

I have an Encore 45-70 barrel coming and I'm kind of preparing to load CBs for it. I plan to use it for deer at some point but I will shoot it to see what it will do. I have 3 molds for it that I...
I looked for Trap Commander wads but there seems to be a stock shortage. Is there others that work well for a 58 cal slug
I have a 20 gauge Remington 870 with a rifled barrel and scope, that I use for deer hunting here in southern Minnesota. Till this year my choice of ammo has been Remington AccuTip 2 3/4" slugs. It...
Forum: Gas Checks
Because of the high prices for gas checks, I decided to make my own maker dies on my mini lathe. What I thought would be a breeze turns out to have its struggles. After measuring and figuring what...
Bought me a hand cannon to use on deer and carry in the woods/camping. I have two Lee molds. One is 214gr and the other is a 240gr TL boolit. The 240gr made with wheel weights. I loaded some with 21...

It doesn't appear there is leading. Of 5 shots 2 were sideways key holes. The other 3 showed just a bit of off center entry.
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
I loaded some 13gr red dot for my Mosin with .311 185gr cast with ww. I shot 5 @ 20yards and they keyholed. Would that be a clue that they are to small diameter? I haven't slugged the gun yet which...

I guess I was thinking it but forgot to type it. 7.62x54r. Call it a senior moment.
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
I bought me a lead slinger to shoot cast. Just for fun. I have the Lee .311 185gr mold w/GC and now would like to find a load using Red Dot powder. I have a bunch of it. I'm hoping I can get some...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Thank you for the load data. I rechecked my BHN with a caliper and they are 17. I had a time with the Lee gizmo.
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
I tried casting a few of the same mold I mentioned in a previous reply, with a different mix of bits and pieces . Some were some soft lead, I think from a window, the other material were the darkest...

Thank you so much. My problem is That I have scrounged lead from all over and then got a melting pot going on an outside fire and threw it all in. I just started casting for rifle bullets but have...

Thanks but I have some coming from Brownells. Is there a method to lower the weight? BHN is about 21.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I have a RCBS 7MM 168gr mould. It's throwing bullets that with GC and lube at about 180gr. The BHN I tested was right around 20. 1st question is how do I get my melt (which is scrounged WW) to throw...
