    Interesting poll and good stories.

Only wish the age increments for the bar graph were the same. 20-30 is 11 years; 31-40 is 10 years and subsequent increments are 5 years. Skewed graphically for...

I'd stick with pure lead. With minimal contact between the ball and barrel, you'll want the ball to obturate as much as possible to engage the rifling and form a seal.

The only "concerns" I would have are:

    1) Accuracy since there is not a lot of bullet engaging the rifling (only at the diameter)
    2) Getting a decent crimp since it would have to be right at the...

54 cal PRB dropping a bit small

Hey guys. Did my first ever casting today with a Lee 530-RB mold. The box says 224gr for weight. I casted 50 and most are 212-213gr. Intrigued I measured diameter and most are .526-.527"

Most of my lead (premelt) is at a BHN of 10-11 according to Staedtler pencil testing. For the first casts (ever), I'll probably shoot for a BHN of 13-14 using the alloy calculator on this site and...

BHN - Why the Large Disparity?

Missouri Bullet claims a BHN of 18 for magnum velocities. Fortunecookie45lc indicates a BHN of 18 for velocities between 950-1700fps. Yet, a BHN of about 11 seems popular for these velocities on...

The way around this is to load 454 cases at 45 Colt levels. Same with 357/38 and 44mag/spl. Downside like Johnnyflake said is that 454 cases are harder to find and more expensive.
