I had a 35x30-30 for a while. the deal with dies is to use a 38-55 to size the body when needed and a 357 mag to size the neck. Can seat bullets with a 358 seater.

That's pretty much what my normal load in the Springfield Trapdoor does with the same bullet, and it is plenty powerful for anything you might encounter. 70gr. FFg + Lee 405HB gets the job done.

No gaschecks used in that setup.

Take the extractor out of the barrel, and try a sized case in the chamber. Where does it stop? Is it sticking out? Flush? Or down past the edge? As long as it's not below the surface too much, like...

That's certainly understandable. Scrubbing the bore with Scotchbrite on a jag for a while should work too, and be easier on your cap supply. Maybe do that first to see how it goes.

I don't remember, maybe 20 or so. That was in my Dixie Squirrel, not the Hoyt rebore. In that one I just fired it a couple hundred times to smooth it out.

When I did that, I used them for firelapping. Clean between each shot or you can't load the next one.

Especially in the 45 caliber. Epoxy bedding the tang so the force is spread over the whole area goes a long way to keeping that from happening.

Exactly. My TC is best with 15 grains of powder, and my Dixie squirrel rifle with 1:48 is best with 30 grains. The TC makes a better squirrel rifle, the Dixie blows them up.

PN = powder negro or black powder. 18.2mm = bore size, 12ga. You got the date code. Other stamp with the shield is the proof house.

Some of those hunting rifles with Forsyth rifling could generate quite high velocities. And with 1:150" twist they had to in order to shoot accurately. Something like the Phaeton underhammers that...

Smokeless powder is made by extrusion. Since the powder factories don't make black powder like that, I suspect there is a reason for not doing so.
