I know this is an old thread. But, this is an issue that I dealt with multiple times over the years. And, back in 2018 found what, for me, is the perfect trail gun for the woods and waters of...

Yes, it is a SWC. But, so is the Keith design. And, as is the Speer LSCW. But, the loadings are quite different from each other.(see Alliant's page)

It is my understanding that the Speer boolit...

    Lee TL240-430-SWC...discription used when loading

I cast the Lee TL240-430-SWC using wheel weights and mixed-recycled boolit lead. 99% of the time I am using Alliant Powders like Unique and Power Pistol. I am puzzled, though. The boolit design is...

Actually, it was a statement. Using a max load of Power Pistol 880s fps was the average velocity in these guns. But, I found that 850 fps produced a tighter group, a more accurate point of impact,...

Richhodg66, with that load the Bulldog is certainly NOT a range gun. But, shooting it enough to stay proficient and then mainly carrying it, the discomfort is short-lived.

Landy88, that is exactly where I am heading with this. My other woods guns weigh 20-24 ounces more. One would think that I should just accept the heavier weight...and, I do while in the upper Rocky...
  8. >Light Weight Trail/Woods Gun- .44 Special, 240 Grain Cast SWC, 850 fps

I have several stoutly built .45 caliber and .44 (.430) caliber revolvers that I have carried for years while walking and 4-wheeling in the woods. But, over the years I have begun to long for...

I have been shooting an HSM 250 grain cast RNFP slug on top of 9.5 grains of BE-86 from my 1989 S&W 625 in .45 Colt. Shoots great with no signs of pressure issues.
    I recently landed some...

    Surface Bearing Area

I have two .45 caliber cast boolits. One, is a traditional 250 grain round nose flat point design. The other, is a Laser-Cast 255 SWC.

Which one has the most surface bearing area?

    Thank...

    Just an FYI:
Recently, I loaded up some .45 Colt. 250 gr cast RNFP (HSM 250 grain hardcast) on top of 9.5 gr Alliant BE-86. It is quite accurate through my revolver. Today, I fired a short string...

Unique Max Loads for .45 Colt?

    184587
I am a bit confused. The Alliant Powder page shows 9.5 grains of Unique as the max charge for both the 200 gr SWC and the 250 gr SWC. Is there an error, here?

    Thank ya'll for the input.

Would it change anything if the boolit was more specifically the Lee 452-200-RF versus their 200 grain SWC?
  18. 8.3 grain Green Dot, 200 grain boolit, .45 Colt

On the Alliant Powder website it gives the following load:
    .45 Colt
    8.3 gr. Green Dot
    CCI 300 primer
    200 grain SWC
    5.5" barrel

Is this load at or under 14,000 PSI?
    Thank you.

Undersized Cast Boolit...Can it still be used?

  22. 9.5 grains BE-86 and 250 grain cast RNFP

  23. S&W 625 .45 Colt, 9 grains BE-86 and 250 gr RNFP---Velocity?

I am currently without a chrono. And, I am looking for someone who may have a solid estimation of the velocity this load may produce from my S&W 625 .45 Colt. It has a 4" barrel.

Blue Dot and Standard .45 Colt Load
