Cabelas is the DEVIL!!! I have spent more money in the Boise, ID and Lehi, Utah Cabelas stores than I would care to think of. It's financially dangerous to have a store close by!

When I was at Elmendorf (Anchorage), I was a volunteer conservation officer on base. We would deal with the problem bears (brownies and black bears) with 12ga "cracker" rounds. They were a...

I love free lead! I picked up 15 lbs of range lead today, along with a LOT of brass! It was a good day!

Holy zinc and steel!!!! I bought a 5 gal bucket today for $20. When all was said and done after sorting, I ended up with 85# of clip-on and 20# of stick-on. The rest was fe and zn. But, its another...

Yeah, I've had a couple of chain tire shops give me the same line of bull. I don't know if its out of ignorance or just company policy. I just don't waste my time stopping by those shops any more.
I pour into the molds and let it sit while I wait for another pot to melt. Once the WW's in the pot start to go molten, I drop the ingots out of the molds. Maybe 10-15 minutes time. This ensures the...

Hahahaha!! Yeah, yeah... Believe it or not, there are a few of us ground-pounders in the AF. At least your brother turned out all right! [smilie=1:
Seriously tho, I come from a long line of...

Yeah, I've been a Combat Arms instructor for more years than I care to remember, and I have never run across anyone, to include at higher headquarters that WANTED frangible. Most ranges avoid it...

Hahaha!!! Unfortunately, we don't use anything in .30-06 anymore. The M14's are about the oldest things we have left in the AF inventory, aside from the M2's.

Almost every 9mm round and probably half the 5.56mm the USAF shoots for training is frangible. It is similar in the Navy. The Army and Marines have more real-estate for ranges, so they still use...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Absolutely not true. We do not use frangible for overseas operations due to restrictions by the Geneva Convention on ammunition. All military ammunition used in combat operations overseas must be...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
The frangible we use is, unfortunately, not for as cool a reason as CQB, altho it does have that purpose as well. The reason we use it is because it's "lead free". The gov't is cramming this...

Yeah, the Redding set is supposed to be specifically for the K31 chamber. It doesn't matter tho. I use the RCBS set for my K31. No issues whatsoever. The difference between the two 7.5x55 chambers...
Once you get your mold cleaned up, go to a 2nd hand store or Harbor Freight and buy a cheap hot plate to pre-heat your molds. I also made the same mistake once, following Richard Lee's instructions...

I agree, they are frangible. The frang we use in the military are comprised of compressed copper and zinc, IIRC. I'll have to look them up the MSDS when I go to work tomorrow.

My stuff is simply in stacked muffin ingots. I have a space under a shelf in the garage, and there they are stacked. I only have 1400 lbs or so, so I'm small time compared to you guys...

Yup. I always take a few buckets so I only have to lift, at the most, half a bucket into the bed of my truck. But, I do like those cranes from Harbor Freight. One of those would be nice!

It's been years since I lived in Northern Utah, but there were plenty of places west of SLC (near Tooele). I used to hunt jack rabbits out there and there was plenty of public land. The way Salt...
