jonp,
Not sure if I have missed something in this thread, but why not start with a chamber/throat cast (or pound cast) and bore slugs for your particular rifle?

Just thought I'd take a look myself. All pertinent numbers are different. ??

What brand are those wonderful refried beans? Please! I'm always making my own, as I just can't find a canned brand I'm really crazy about. Making them is okay, but it would be nice to find some...

If you can get to the breech, jam an oversize for the caliber brass-bristle brush, screwed on a cleaning rod, into the chamber. Then pull out the offending front part of the casing. In my experience,...
I agree with others: I really stand by my Lee Classic Turret Press. Due to long-term injuries I cannot sit or stand in one place long enough to use my Rockchucker press any longer. Period. Just takes...
Please pardon me if I seem out of step with the discussion concerning nodes, which I am enjoying following tremendously. I am truly a neophyte regarding the search for nodes. However, I am not seeing...
Forum: Factory & Surplus Powder
Okay, I'm just looking at the general characteristics of both powders. H110 has issues with detonation if you go below a certain point, and pressures that climb drastically if above a certain point....
Forum: Factory & Surplus Powder
Just stating that H110 has a narrow range with consequences, and 5744 has a very wide range of useful pressures. I like both, but they are drastically different to be next to each other on burn...

I agree.
5744 would be a good powder for this cartridge. I shoot a lot of it, and it is greatly misunderstood. Its burning characteristic, over a very wide pressure range, means it will leave some...

Thanks for the help. I'm going to try to work on the bottom of the sprue plate as described. I'll see if that makes any difference before I even contemplate anything else.

My H&G mold's sprue plate needs some help. The sprue holes are not sharp, and they just don't want to cut the lead. They've never been that great, but I have used that mold a lot (!), and now need to...

My Dad bought this Italian made NAVY ARMS .58 Zouave around '65, and we used to shoot the heck out of it. It is what got us involved in casting to start (minnie balls). I don't remember him buying...

Welcome aboard Terry!
I suggest you slug the bore and cast the chamber for the throat dimensions. This will give you a precise answer, and the throat dimensions will give you a leg up on a mold if...
