'Bell System' solder?
Picked up a bundle of 8" bars marked 'Bell System Sealing Solder' at a yard sale this morning. Stuff has got to be pre-1984...the year Bell Tel was broken up under an anti-trust ruling...'cause the label is cast into the bars along with the old Bell Telephone logo. Anyone got a clue to what the alloy might be? I ran an online search and didn't get a single hit for 'sealing solder' but did find considerable info on 'wiping solder' which seems to go anything from 60(Pb)/40(Sn) to 50/50. Is it possible that 'sealing' and 'wiping' solders are the same animal?

Do your bars say system b, d or e?, I looked into these several years back when I got one in a lead purchase. I have since purchased dozens more blend them in my mix. I was getting them off eBay as cheap as $10 delivered. Pretty cheap sn

Bars weigh in at 8 oz. each and are stamped with a 'D'. From info in the links provided by NyFirefighter357 and skeettx, it appears the alloy is most likely 40/60 or 37/63. Believe it or not, got the bundle of 10 bars for $1.

80 oz for a dollar is great! I have not seen them in that size. All the bars I have are 5lb. The sn/pb ratio is very close on what system it is, so I bought any I could find.

I have two 5 pound bars. From what I understand they are 38% tin.
