Comfort and fast handling...
Nice illustration there. Clear and concise.
To determine the LOP that is right for you, bend your arm and place the end of a yardstick in the bend of your elbow of your trigger finger side arm. Measure from the bend of the elbow to the first joint of your trigger finger. Presto that's your LOP

thanks guys, I knew I'd get a quick quality answer here.
:)
The LOP is not an exact number when you are talking about an actual measurement change. In theory, it is just as previously illustrated. However, it is affected by the thickness of one's clothing.
If you measure your LOP on a bare arm with a Tee-shirt, you gun will be too long for you when you put on your down coat and go duck hunting: much too much clothing thickness to be correct. So when you measure your length of pull, meaure with the clothing on that you intend to wear hunting. Then you can have your gunsmith cut the stock, if needed.
I would agree the LOP is not an exact number that can be determined by formula. The amount of clothing will have a bearing as will the the type of firearm, the type of sight and how the individual mounts the firearm and where he places his face on the comb will also factor in.
