New to vintage ammo collecting.

Recently a pail of old ammo found its way to my truck, so feeling like a relaxing afternoon beer started to sort into them a bit. Some interesting stuff, I've done some basic research, but thought id post the first couple of odd bits.

I learned today that Express rounds have a copper core in the slug, I was wondering if the '06 was an armor piercing round, no military headstamp on it.

very nice ! you always want to check for '03-06 head stamps, you could spend a lifetime collecting '06 alone. On GB is a collect of 11mm Mauser rounds covering every year and arsenal. A very impressive collection.

It was a advertising/marketing term.
Express ammo and cartridges were marketed as higher speed, longer range,
to hunt potentially dangerous game before the term 'magnum' came along.

The rem 30-06 is a bronze tipped expanding bullet. Similar to winchesters silver tip.

That copper plug in the second bullet looks like it might be a 22 short blank insert to make an exploding cartridge. They had moulds for that in the 1880s.

I love digging through containers of random cartridges. I started my collection with a $10 box a randomness from a local shop and ended up with some pretty neat (at least to me) stuff like polymer-cased .38 SPL, 8mm Lebel, .300 H&H, .38/.45 Clerke, .30 Luger, .280 AI. I'm now up to 204 types, some with multiples if they're interesting (steel, aluminum, and brass .410 shells). I've some multiples that I can send you're way if you want them.
