lake of the woods?
anyone know how to fish the lake of the woods the american side? anything else beside walleyes in their, any panfish at all? i know it is a shallow lake but dont know a thing about fishing it. all our experience is with lake winni and cut foot sioux.

Been years since I have been up there. But I did spend 2 years in Warroad.
They fish shallow reefs and changes in depths, maybe only 1-3 feet difference in total depth.
As to panfish there is darn little on that side of the lake. Up in the islands you may get some bass.
Perch in the bays.
I always had my best luck in the Zippel Bay area east of Warroad.
Watch the weather and watch your gas consumption.
It is not a place you want to be in a windstorm or without power.

thanks, the last time i was up there, their was 6 foot waves hitting the beach. must be some really good northern pike fishing on that lake. can really get ruff water on that lake.

Biggest Northern Pike of my life came from Zippel bay opening weekend 1979.
14 lbs and he towed my canoe almost 3/4 of a mile. Caught on light spinning tackle, 10 lb mono.

Have not been up there for years, no idea. East side of the river is state park, no idea about cabins or boats.

also i know the north west end of leech lake is a good fishing spot for northerns and walleyes but it is also great for huge pan fish. GhostHawk, if you really want to do sme really good catfish fishing go to the spillway of lake mcconaughey in the middle of nebraska and you really get some big cats their, also wipers, the wipers are so big they look like they belong in the ocean. they are a cross between stripers and white bass. you need stought gear to fish the wipers and the cats comming out of that spill way.
