BP PP Loads for Heavy Cast 9.3X72R Drilling to be used on Moose

Found a Drilling gunsmiths' special and picked it up. I have included photos of the proofs and stamps. From best I can tell upon a quick inspection the rifle barrel is a 9.3X72R. I want to take it on a grouse and moose hunt (if I can ever get drawn again). Anyone out there have a good BP load for a heavier cast. I would happily trade range for knockdown. 250 grain+?

That's going to be a nice rifle to hunt with!
Twist rate in the barrel will tell you how big a bullet it can stabilize. Parallel sided 35 caliber bullets (of which there aren't very many to choose from) work well to patch up in a 9.3mm. You'll likely be looking at the Accurate Molds catalog here shortly. Enjoy!

Ill be at the shop tomorrow and hope to find the time to cast the chamber, slug the barrel and get the twist rate.

Is it blasphemy to say that the 358 FTX pops into mind when you say that?

Just made a pound cast of my 9.3x74.
Got the Accurate take off of the 358009 that will be tried with paper.
But it might be a long time before any smokeless gets burned in it.

Customers guns before mine. Though I did get the muzzles all squared up. Good Cheer, I have read a lot on the X74r in the last year or so. Great cartridge. If you want a chuckle look up threads about making 450 mongo like cartridges for 454/410 chambers.

Please post some pictures of the whole Rifle when you get a chance.

What is the Barrel Length?

Is the 9.3x72 powerful enough for Moose?
I always though of it as a deer or smaller game cartridge.

The 9.3x72 is almost the same as the old loadings for the .38-55WCF. = Personally, I regard the 9.3x72R as inadequate for any game larger than WT, except at close range & under the most favorable conditions.
(I've owned & hunted with several drillings & a Cape-Gun in that caliber since 1970.)

Imo, the 9.3x72R is a FINE cast bullet weapon & as a CB firearm is "kind to" the old combination guns, especially those combination guns that have thin barrels.

Hello, how is your heavy load for 9.3x72r?
I know one for bullet type 72U, 227gr cast with grooves, it was pre 1945 factory BP load with 3,2g(49gr) of black powder with velocity 450m/s.
On Facebook is group "9,3x72r " or find mé, we can Share some experience with 9,3x72r. I have old roux suhl drilling from 1906 in this caliber. Cheers
