Not to argue how long a deer will feed a family, but around here the average mature deer usually yields about 90 pounds at least. Most times better than 100 pounds. True, that wouldn't come near feeding my family of 4 for 6 months. But when I've watched the Alaska reality show we like, they talk about needing at least 4 mature bucks to feed two people for 6 months. Plus they harvest Moose and Caribou also. So all in all I think if they can get in at least a couple kills each different season, deer, moose, and caribou it should feed them quite well. Of course no one can count on filling your meat storage every year so one would have to improvise and adapt to feed the family.
