Jacket Thickness

Curious to see what jacket thickness people are typically using in their swaged bullets. Especially the thickness of the jacket near the meplate. If you'd using spent shells or a jacket with an internal taper (all drawn jackets will have some taper) the mouth of the jacket will be the thinnest.

My .40 casings are .12 if I remember right. the .308 I think I trimmed to .15? been a while.

Depends on the caliber and use. Thinner jackets for smaller calibers and thicker jackets for hunting use....

Thanks for all the responses so far. I know that its going to depend on what you are intending to do with the bullet. I.E hunting, or target shooting

I am working on doing a design study for polymer tips, and jacket thickness plays a role in how the tip will be crimped into place. The tips will work with a range of jacket thicknesses, it just a matter centering the range so that it will work with both the thinner jackets and thicker jackets.


Edit: This would be easier is Jacket thickness was published on Sierra, Berger, or Corbin's website but it's not. If you're making your bullets using spent brass, I know that the thickness is likely to be under .014" as case mouths are rarely thicker (unless you trim back the cases). I figure the poll might be the easiest way of tracking down the info.
