What alloy? How long?
a bolt that is the right thread for a press.
or you could just borrow one of my dies for a little wile and do enough to get you by.
look at btsnipers page, he does a 22simple die set and will sell just the point form. maybe he has a scratch and dent one for cheep.
If you use a bolt get at least grade 8.
Can't afford BT sniper. Just something I would like to play around with. Can someone use a bolt and drill the pilot hole for me / what would be the cost ?? PM me if this is possible.
bump for Friday
Why do you need the hole drilled? If you have the tools to make the point form die, drilling the hole shouldn’t be a problem. It would in fact be better to drill the hole and finish the rest of the point form die without removing it from the lathe to keep everything concentric.
The best thing to do is learn how to make a centered hole. You can buy good bolts on eBay for making dies for cheap. 10 bolts for $15
don't have a lath, must do my work with hand tools. Hand ream etc. once I have a centered pilot hole.
Maybe more than you want to spend, but take a look anyway:

How close are you to STL? I am in Edwardsville.
I don't think it even needs to be centered perfectly. Try just drilling a hole as close to center as you can and reaming a point forming die for yourself ...it would be good practice if it didn't work. That's how I learned to do stuff. Just tried ... no lathe but make my own dies.
Here are some poor quality videos of my dies. Not professional, but you may get some ideas from these.https://www.dropbox.com/s/pfqn21eko28sbvc/Die1.mp4?dl=0

It doesnt have to be centered if your punch can float a bit.
want to thank everyone for their help.
I want to send out a Big Thanks to garandsrus . He made me up not one but two pieces of rod. One to practice on , guess he knew I might have problems .:groner: Thanks again garandsrus for your help and kindness.
