which would be the easiest?

The problem: The scope on my AR15 is so high i have little or no cheek contact with the but stock. The reason it is this way is the factory front sight is so high and i can't through it. It is one of those A frame sights 3-4" high that is also the gas block.
I know have a 1" high 4.5" long riser (totally UUUgly) that just bairly holds the scope high enough to use. But i can still see the ghost of the front sight in the bottom of the scope. I have looked at other devicess to raise the scope. But i haven't found one high enough.
How hard would it be to take the front sight off (which i more than likely not ever use) And replace it with a shorter gas block?

Do you have the standard handguards on it or a float tube? If standard handguards the easiest thing would to just cut off the tower portion of the sight frame file smooth and apply some cold blue . You don't even need to take it off the barrel to do that . If the rifle has free floating hand guards you can do the same thing or tap out the two cross pins and just tap off the sight tower and install any low profile gas block that installs with set screws.

I too have solved this problem with a hack saw and a file. I just whacked the front sight off the gas block, cleaned it up with a file, blasted it and reparked it. Not the most elegant solution but on a parts kit, yote stomper truck gun it worked well. You could always buy an extra and chop it up so you have the option to throw the original back on.

Haha I hear ya. But ya know what it's an AR it's supposed to be ugly and bubba'ed up .... honestly though it's a simple job and not hard to do properly so it don't look bad hasksaw and a file about all you need .

Was running into the same problem. Thought about taking a hacksaw and file to it. Then at a gunshow, bought another upper and swapped it out. Will try to take RU's solution on the backup upper or just leave it alown and use it with the open sights. Didn't think I needed an AR15, just bought it to PO the libs. Used one for years in the USAR, now it's growing n me.

Know there is a difference between a M16A2 and a AR 15, but they handle the same, since I put a A2 buttstock on mine

Your best bet (IMHO) would be to get a new Picatinny (flat) gas block for the front. This would be negated if you don't have a removable carrier handle, in that case just lop that sucker off like the others have said...you can always get another if you sell it.

At 2x I can see it, but at 7x I can not.

How bout you swap it for a barreled upper without the sight tower and not bubba another perfectly fine barrel. Not hatin just stating.

apparently ya have never looked at some custom target rifles. a lot of them have a riser on the stock to achieve a cheek weld when the scope would normally be too high. i did this standard on both of my rifles i built so that the stock is locked to my cheek and is repeatable.

but yes they do look odd, but you make a trade off when you go for accuracy. the problem with sawing off the sights is that once you do it you can't go back to the iron sights if something was to happen to the scope. that is why the risers i got on my rifles just plug on the stock and a canvas sheath laces up over it to hold it in place and hide it. if something was to happen to the scope i can just take the riser off and put my iron sights on and go with it. but a little ghost is not a problem unless it obstructs the sight picture to where it makes aiming impossible. ideally you want the scope as low as you can get it and still be able to see to aim as the higher the scope the more error you can get if the rifle is canted even the smallest amount. it also makes shooting shorter ranges a PITA as the closer you get the lower the POI becomes. but i have shot rifles with suppressors on them that the scope was low enough that the suppressor showed up in the lower portion of the scope. it didn't interfere with the aiming at all so wasn't a problem. but as long as it does not interfere with the target acquisition and the aiming then i would not worry too much about the front sight showing up a little in the bottom of the scope.

If you think you might ever want to use the front sight again, then remove it and replace it with a low pro gas block.

You can later on replace the front sight tower/gas block assembly and it'll be just as solid as it was. It has tapered pins that will need to be driven, if I recall correctly, from the left, to the right. They should be larger on one side than the other. Some ar's did come with just straight pins, but it aint spec that way. Each sight tower is put on the barrels, and then the pin holes are drilled. So, each tower/barrel will have different spacing of the holes, thus a used sight normally wont work on the barrel without re-reaming one hole, installing an over sized pin, and then doing the other hole.

There are bunches of options for replacement gas blocks, both with folding sights, and with no sights and with rails.

This, a about 3 power they seem to disappear, 4 power for sure.

When they invented the removable carry handle they should have done the same for the front sight tower IMHO.

I like the standard A2 rifle sighs myself.

There are a multiple options that will work that have been mentioned above that I second or third.
Lower the scope and ignore the Little fuzzy spot.
Or put a cheap micro gas block on, they can be found for minimal $.

I had a buddy who has that A2 gas block/ sight and a low mounted scope I never played with magnification but I never saw it in the scope so +1 on this one
